Post by jimm127 »

RBL KYRENIA BRANCH PRESS RELEASE - SEPTEMBER EVENTS
1. RBL Quiz Night - this takes place on the first Monday of every month at the Black Olive Cafe in Alsancak and the next one is on Monday 7 Sep commencing at 7pm. It is 5tl entry fee per person and 10tl for the food which this month is quiche & salad. To book call Sheila on 0533 833 3228.

2. Proms in the Park - This year's event will take place at the Wild Duck Café in Lapta on Wednesday 9 September. The gates will open at 6pm with the actual 'Proms' being shown from 8.30pm. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink although the bar and kitchen will be open on the night with a special menu for the event. Tickets are 10tl for members and 15tl for non-members and sales are going well with over 50 sold so far and fancy dress is welcomed. Café owner Emma has confirmed that this year you can have chairs on the grass as long as you put a blanket under the chair and she had asked that you use plastic wine glasses only as broken glasses are hard to spot on the grass which will have babies and children crawling on it after the event. The Poppy Shop will be open at the event so that you can purchase all your RBL trinkets and we are hoping to have two giant screens this year instead of just one. Tickets are available at the Wild Duck and also the two Bestseller book shops in Alsancak and Karakum or by phoning Brian on 0533 841 1882.

3. Branch Meeting - this will take place on Monday 14 Sep commencing at 7pm at the North Shield pub in Lapta. There will be 2 guest speakers after the meeting; Dr Alexis Johnson from the Kolan hospital and Pembe Ibrahim from the Citizens Advice Cyprus, for further information contact the branch secretary Pamela Padden on 0533 873 6876.

4. Day at the Races - one of our branch members Eddie Hollely has kindly agreed to run this event which will take place from 4pm at the Courtyard Inn in Karakum on Saturday 26 Sep. Be a winning punter or a champion jockey, cash prizes and champagne for the winning jockeys. Get a meal deal with Mo plus evening entertainment, for details contact Eddie on 0533 836 5259.

5. ‘Access to Healthcare and Integration Road show’ by the Consular staff of the BHC - Our Branch is hosting this event in the theatre of Chateau Lambousa on Wed 21 Oct between 4.30pm - 7pm. A bar will be open downstairs and other expat organisations will also be invited. A Poppy Appeal stall will also be open with your first chance to purchase your 2015 poppy. A poster for this event will be sent out in due course but essentially this is what Zoe Woodward at the BHC Consular Section has told us about the event: "We have two people from the Overseas Healthcare Team coming to Cyprus in October to talk to British nationals regarding access to healthcare. This will include usage of the EHIC card and also the new regulations in regards to pensioners from EU countries accessing NHS treatment in the UK. At this point in time, we are still awaiting clarification from London in regards resident pensioners in the north being able to access the NHS under the new regulations. We are being advised a decision should be made prior to these road shows. I will also be presenting on the consular role in Cyprus. We are hoping the Deputy Head of Mission, Lynda Burns, will open at least one of the sessions however this is yet to be confirmed." There will be a similar brief at 11am that day at St. Andrews church.

6. Pantomime - Tickets for the 2015 RBL Theatre Players pantomime ‘Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves’ will go on general sale to the public at the Lambousa market box office from Saturday 5 September. Front of house manager Andrew Cowley said: “We have had over 300 reservations already prior to the tickets going on general sale which is very encouraging as we are only having three evening performances this year as well as two matiness for the children. All the profits raised goes towards this year’s Poppy Appeal so it is a very worthy cause which we hope that the expat community will support as much as they have done in previous years.” The downstairs theatre at the Chateau Lambousa in Lapta will be the venue for this fun packed event and the cast are already back in rehearsals having had a two month break due to the excessive heat. Director Mark Lake, who once again wrote the script, said: “All 19 cast members have had their summer break and will hopefully return this week with batteries fully charged, scripts learnt and raring to go. I have tried to make the show as colourful and fun as possible and there are some great numbers to sing along to. Every previous year has been a sell-out and we are hoping that this year is no different.” Reservations are 35TL which includes a free drink on arrival. Children under 16 will only pay 20TL. The dates are Thursday 26, Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November for the evening performances with curtain up at 7.30pm and Thursday 26 and Friday 27 November for the two matinees with curtain up at 10am. Pre-show meals at the Chateau Lambousa hotel restaurant can be booked via Mr Cowley on 0533 866 7563

I do not mean to be rude at all , just advice, your very informative posting would have a much better effect if broken down into paragraphs.

I think many people will not read much further than about a third of the way through.

Regards.

I have pointed this out before Johhny on another thread that ran on the news section about people not being able to read when every paragraph is so close together.

I have also pointed out to the person that copied and pasted this article that the 3rd paragraph is reading that Pembe Ibrahim is not speaking for "Citizens Advice Bureau", (which people should know is in the UK) but Citizens Advice Cyprus.

A pretty poor show from the people that sent this article to press without proof reading beforehand.

Jimm127 has edited the paragraph.

No Tomsteel it was not in any way meant to be negative, just simply a very informative post that I started to read and found hard work with it being bunched up and the whole purpose of the topic is for people to read and hopefully support the RBL.

But at least with us chatting about it we keep it near the top for them. I did not realise it had been copied and pasted or something like that, I thought someone had typed it.

This post is information about the Rbl, not an excuse to have a go about peoples reading capabilities. As it was for information and that will remain available I am now locking the post so people can concentrate on what the post is about......RBL meetings!!
