Re: L & B cigarettes
I smoked L B silver which they stopped months ago. I went on to Mayfair, they stopped them, then I went on to Superkings, they stopped them. Now I smoke Muratti Rosso - I'm waiting for them to be taken off the shelves. At this rate I'll run out of ready mades, I'll end up rolling, lol.

My third and fourth male children are to be named Lambert and Butler. The first and second will be named Benson and Hedges.

It seems that cigarettes by the imperial tobacco company, which is a wide range, are no longer being imported here, but no shopeepers seem to know why.

They sold them in supreme up until last night. At their large cigarette counter. Have you looked there? Also the supermarket along by Windows Cafe in town.

Re: L & B cigarettes
I have been wondering why different cigarettes have become unobtainable. I started with Superkings, went onto Silk Cut, tried Rothmans and am now on Marlboro. I thought someone was subtly dropping a hint (have you noticed how many fewer Cypriots smoke? But Heavens explanation may well be the right one, and it will be political? The trouble is it is all the mild , King Size that seem to be disappearing and when I tried the shorter type, I actually found I was smoking twice as many!

In actual fact you are right. I am LB gold and at the moment they are available, however the other mild ones are much higher in tar, nicotine etc hence I smoked the LB. Not good news and not sure what will replace them.

Smoking leads to ill health and contributes to death placing a great burden on facilities and families...give up now; if you had to pay for oxygen you would not treat you lungs with such negligence.

Well papasquidge I will answer your judgemental answer as follows as someone asked a reasonable question and got a reasonable answer. I do not spend my time down ex pat bars getting drunk out of my mind but dont judge those who do - over drinking is bad for you, in England, a friend criticised smokers, she was over weight and yet could eat a pack of 5 doughnuts in one go - I did not judge but obesity is bad for you. I do not judge others unlike you have. Let him or her without sin cast the first stone. Look at your own faults before you look at others is always good advice.

Re: L & B cigarettes
I think any intelligent adult cannot fail to be aware of the dangers of smoking, not to mention the expense even here,so PapaS's post was hardly necessary as well as being strictly ot.
Smoking, as well as being addictive, is often a response to stress, maybe not a very sensible one but we are all subject to human frailty! So are heavy drinking and over eating. Perhaps those who are ready to criticise or preach should consider their own behaviour and whether the things they have done, or left undone, are contributing to the stress of daily life.
Re cigarettes I am not sure exactly what they are? Can anyone inform me and are they available here??

I have just read the post about exchange rates. Maybe the importers of cigarettes have pre empted this, and are unable or unwilling to invest in the cost in foreign currency? It looks as though we willl all have to give up, whether we want or not, and other imported goods as well.
PS whatever happened to Turkish tobacco and Turkish cigarettes?

Sacred Heart Heaven....I hope you feel better after that; tbh, I would also judge those who drink or eat too much and place themselves at risk of premature illness or death by digging their own graves with their teeth despite proven research and education.i also feel aggrieved that they take up valuable health care and tax payers money and place themselves at risk to the detriment of others who may need health care for illness through no fault of their own.
Smoking kills not only the smoker but innocent others through passive smoking...fact. So by all means feel free to have a pop at my post but I would rather speak my mind and offer an opinion that be so non-judgemental that I would let others damage their health through lack of education.
As for looking to my own faults....I don't have any.

Oh dear, thank you for your responses. Of course I realise it is not good for me. I did stop for 19 years then in a temper lite a cigarette, tasted so awful I put it out and lite another one, there you are I have been smoking now for 18 years. Patches on, take them off and light a cigarette. If I am honest I enjoy a cigarette. I do know about addiction because I have not lifted alcohol to my lips for 37 years. Thank you Ragged a Robin and Heaven for being understanding.

Re: L & B cigarettes
rocking: I dont want to discourage you, but I have read that tobacco is the hardest addiction to conquer : harder even that "hard drugs"! I gave up alcohol some years ago - and was surprised how easy it was - but ciggies are much more difficult.
Re L & B discontinuing selling: see my post above, are you sure it is not the TRNC that isnt buying as a result of the problems with the TL?

Re: L & B cigarettes
Amusing how those who prate and pontificate about smokers who "... take up valuable health care and tax payers money...." very conveniently fail to comment on the amount of tax that smokers cough up (if you'll pardon the pun) - of course, such selectivity also always applies when denigrating any and all other practitioners of unapproved, vile and obscene debaucheries of which the complainant does not partake.... Perhaps those smookers who don't need any health care should get a refund?
By the way, I'm not a smoker - but I wonder how many skiers, horseriders, (amateur) footballers - take your pick/name a hobby - have received health care following their hobbies - without paying any taxes?
As to my faults - I make sure I have so many that everyone else is happy - they can say they're better than me!

Re: L & B cigarettes
The answer to the question is, apparently the company to import them here have a limit set to supply them and the numbers bought here, from imperial tobacco have fallen below set limit, therefore they will not supply. This according to illelli and man in shop who delivers their tobacco.

That makes sense Heaven. I noticed at the Ozankoy Festival last week that only two or three people were smoking. A few years ago virtually all the Cypriot man at least would have lit up. It look as if one way or another we smokers are all doomed!

Don't panic, don't panic......Lemar Catalkoy had Silk Cut last week... the local shop got a supply this week ............... and then I went to the new Tempo (never thought of it for cigs, I went there for cottage cheese which no doubt will be more acceptable to the health fanatics) they seemed to be well supplied with Silk Cut..
Maybe the exporters wait until they have sufficient orders from the shops and markets to satisfy a quoa or make the operation financially viable, which could also explain the disappearance and reappearance of other items
No sign of Superkings though

In 1964 at the age of 49 my dad had a heart attack .. The doctor told him to lose 3 stone & to stop smoking .. Or else ..
He did both & lived for another 13 years .. Wasn't so difficult for him to stop when put to him like that ..
