So, where do expat musicians without a work permit stand legally if coming to perform - are they exempt from the ban on them if they're playing for charity?

Would-be expat performers need to know.

All i can say on the matter is when my husband went to the to make inquires he was assure that as it was for a charity, all of our Open Mic Nights are to raise monies for the Friends of the TRNC Emergency Services it would be ok,
The Musician sing and play for us do so without getting paid with money or food they actually spend their money buying food and buying raffle tickets so in theory they are paying to sing.
Hope this helps a little
Vicki
Please come along and enjoy the night it is a very relaxed atmosphere

Roy, are you planning a Kevin Bloody Wilson tribute act?

I've always wanted to, G - but let's say, due to the apparent prevalence of hypocritical crudes, who doubtless watch Yankee TV films, where every other word seems to be 'mother-fu^ker', yet claim they get most offended if one of my songs has even the mildest imprecation, I have had to shelve the idea of a 'Kevin 'Blo*dy' - er, 'Jolly' Wilson tribute evening. Actually, how these people can watch anything, even on BBC, where every programme is preceded by 'parental guidance is advised', astounds me!

If, of course, we could find enough K'B'W aficionados, I would be only too happy to oblige, as I have approx. fifty of Australia's favourite modern bard's songs in my folder.

You are an experienced organiser, G - please try and get the job organised. Unfortunately, I can't use my 'concrete tent' as a venue, as my girlie works late and needs her beauty sleep!

All you 'Karaoke' crooners and wannabe pop-stars - get yourselves to the Black Olive for 'Open Mic.' tomorrow evening [Saturday 5th Sept.] and all you need to do is tell our performers the song you would like to sing and one of them will provide the instrumental accompaniment - there you go - simple as!

Everyone who has dined at the Black Olive raves about the food and the serves are really big and generous - so generous, in fact, that you'll probably be feeling 'bloated beyond repair' - sort of like you feel after a big, fat Christmas dinner!

Now, that all sounds pretty good - eh!!!
