Although there is no formal extradition treaty the TRNC police have cooperated with the British police before - remember the woman from Wales who brought her daughter here against a court ruling, she was over the border & back in UK before her feet touched the ground.
What is the beach shown on the video it certainly looks very busy!

I think most of he pics were of the South- including the beach - Sky probably used library pics and just pressed the button marked "Cyprus".

There have been several cases where unofficially the local police have cooperated fully with Scotland/Yard and / or Interpol. The line is that they co-ooperate fully in cases of violence , but are less keen on purely financial crime - no prizes for guessing why!

In one case they actually tried a Turkish Cypriot here under a law that a person could be tried in his country of citizenship for a crime committed elsewhere. Scotland Yard shipped out witnesses etc. It made local andUK headlines at the time but the TRNC was never mentioned by name in the UK media! A representative of Scotland Yard spoke on BBC and praised the professionism and co-operation of the Police of "the country concerned"!

In another a man sought for extreme violence in a horrible case of "road rage" roused the hunting instincts of locals and expats alike and everyone went around peering at strangers. It was quite disappointing when he was found elsewhere - Spain I think.

Here is a list of all the fugitives they are looking for:-

http://wanted.crimestoppers-uk.org/

The first eight are believed to be in Cyprus, most probably North Side according to BBC news.

It is rumoured that the lady was working in a bar in celebrity Hotel and it is rumoured that her boyfriend worked for cyprus solutions for a time, but.... there are now a lot of people 'on the case' . So watch the new,s but if anyone can think where otherson the list may have been seen, DO report it to help police catch these people to face justice. this place may be paradis,e but we don't need it to be full of those who should not set foot on the perfect pavements of paradise and who need their wings clipping!

I don't think this couple will be here for long now that this has come to light. Hit & run is in my opinion is the lowest of the lowest crimes, be it an accident or not & has destoyed a family. Surely they must of realized that one day it would catch up with them, so why not do the time then, rather than 6 yrs later with a longer sentence.
Its amazing that you just never know who your neighbours are.
I am shocked that they show no remorse & have mixed with us in the local bars here in Lapta.
What happened to the police checks that we all had to go through to reside here in the trnc.

Marions, on another forum there are people who are quite sure they have seen both these people working in Hotels, I have asked is there any one of them phoning Crimestoppers but nobody answered yet.

I have today received a phone call stating that this couple are living in Lapta.

All details have been passed to Crimestoppers.

Lets hope the family of the victim will at some point get justice.

On another Forum that printed all the photos' one of them immediately jumped out of the screen it was so recognisable (but then the brain and the eyes can play such tricks on people, especially witnesses). I have absolutely know idea why, but I don't think it was a hotel, more a plumber or electrician or window cleaner, painter and decorator but certainly a workman of some kind. I can't believe I'm the only one, but there again I might be!!

Quite amazing the outcry for justice, the rest of the world are denying justice to the TNRC via non recognition. They then paint a picture that somehow we contrive to harbour people on the run. If they accepted the reality of a separate state for the north then doubtless non of these situations would arise.WAKE UP WORLD SEE SENSE.

i BELIEVE that one of the men worked for Cyprus solutions, and the lady Julie was at the Celebrity. thanks to those who have notified Crimstoppers. I am sure they will be brought to justice and probably before the Star newspaper comes out on Friday with all the details and pictures.! the fact that we are not recogfnised here or that we may be treated badly by the rest of the world, to my mind,m has no relevance to playing our part if we can to ensure that justice is done for others.

Very well put Marion.

Reading the article as to what happened to the poor victim in this crime is shocking.
I would like to think that most people would agree that these two need to be bought to justice.

Yes Mamachina was the "ears that did it" for me, but not sure about Cyprus Solutions though. I can remember someone about 5ft 7ins tall and thin with it.

Yep I am sure he worked for Cyprus Solutions some years ago & he worked in my house! His girlfriend came in one day too & she had left her kids in UK & hated Cyprus. I could not understand why she had left her children behind in UK now it's seems much clearer.

Not heard if they have been nabbed yet. Has anyone? I have a power cut at the moment so think I might go for a walk, but if anyone has any up to date news, would love to hear.

To all those that agree with kengro:

God forbid, if it were a member of your family in the hit and run, would you not turn these people into the authorities, where ever they may live. Think of the poor families concerned.

Just because we 'choose' to live here and no one but Turkey will recognise the TRNC, it does not mean that 2 wrongs make it right!

Unfortunately the "unrecognised" status of the TRNC and consequent lack of exradition treaties does mean that people will see it as a place to come to escape justice in their own country. And it is not just suspected criminals : there are expats operating here to avoid regulations in the UK designed to protect vulnerable customers.

As far as known "suspected" criminals are concerned - surely if honest, lawabiding residents report sightings it will send a message that North Cyprus is a civilised country and it is not in fact a save haven for those with criminal intent.

However , I note "Crime Stoppers" is a Charity not a UK Police or Government authority. Should not the local Police also be advised of wanted criminals in the country - after all, at the end of the day, it is they who will have the task of apprehending the suspects?

Well at least my eyes weren't deceiving me. It was the bloke that worked for Cyprus Solutions and who clambered on our roof saying there was nothing wrong, and we had water pouring in after the first rains!!
