Taking Turkish reg motorbike from north Cyprus to the south.
Hello all,
I'm sorry to start my first post with a question but I've found myself in a bit of a pickle.
We live in Turkey and are attending a wedding in Pathos next month. We booked the Tasucu-Girne ferry for ourselves and the bike with the intention of touring the north for a week then touring the south and attending the wedding.
I've recently (yesterday) been warned off by a mate who said that you are not allowed to take a Turkish registered vehicle from north to south. Could anybody please confirm this. Should it be the case I need to come up with a plan B. Is there a quiet border crossing point with easy access to the south, and southern hire car companies. I'm thinking of staying at a hotel for a couple of days at such a place if it exists, asking if I can leave my bike there and then return and collect it after the celebrations.
Thank you very much,
Dickyb

You will not be allowed to take a Turkish regards vehicle to the South.

Somebody should be able to recommend a car hire company in the north that does allow their cars to be driven in the south - only a few do but as I understand it, they do exist.

If you do hire a car from North & take it over South, you will need a letter of consent & also you will a South side MOT! Make sure you go when that office is open. I didn't use to open on a Saturday & I think it closes at 14-00 weekdays. The MOT is free.

Hope this helps. The RoC Road Certificate is only available at the Metehan and Famagusta crossing points, apparently. Once in your possession you'll then need separate vehicle insurance (25 euros minimum), available at the crossing points.

OK mickham, thanks, I quoted Famagusta also as a poster on a different thread quite recently stated he/she had done so. I thought it was odd at the time and queried it, but the poster was adamant. So Metehan it is. Take your passport, UK DL, car docs and a measure of charm.

I'm a trifle confused Does the road certificate relate to a car hired in northern Cyprus or to my Turkish registered motorbike.
Kind Regards,

The TRNC hire car. Forget your Turkish registered m/c in the RoC, it will not happen.

Tom, I was on the point of answering this post, and then I saw your response.tomsteel wrote:The TRNC hire car. Forget your Turkish registered m/c in the RoC, it will not happen.
I don't think that I, or anyone else for that matter, could have conveyed the realities of the situation in fewer words than you did!
