Has either poster contacted the MM help line? Problem cannot be resolved on this forum.

I quite agree Tom, I can't, for the life of me, understand why people keep posting these comments / questions on here, when it would be much more productive to pose the query to the Internet supplier's helpline, who would probably resolve it, on the spot!

Barmy!

...And to take it one step further...

If they are actually asking for help on here, rather than contacting their ISP, then they do need to supply more information - e.g. 'What have they already tried'? - Have they tried 'power cycling' their router, or their computer, or the receiver dish, - is it the same on all channels, has the issue only occurred following a recent power cut? etc, etc...

Dear Mr Keithcaley, I only asked the question as wanted to know whether it was "all over" problem, if so no need to get in touch with MM, 11 at night so after trying all you suggested went to bed. I know I am not very technical but "Barmy" not yet. I am a great supporter of MM and knew it would be sorted in a day or soon, but in fact ok this morning, so all I wanted to be sent already done. Thank you.

I complained to MM as I was only getting 1-1.2mbps,their answer was that they could see I was getting an average of 5mbps,suddenly it shot up to 15mbps but today it is back down so slow that we can,t use Skype.
Yes you should air your experiences here so other people can see that it is just not them getting rubbish service and being fobbed off.

I agree with Rocking and 13 Roman. It does indeed help if people ask the question on a forum, that way it is brought to the attention of others who are wondering whether it's them or everyone.
This in effect stops every person effected contacting the ISP individually therefore clogging the system and preventing them from getting the problem sorted.
If people are affected and they know others are then they can rest assured the problem will be resolved within a short period of time with no need to make contact, because you can guarantee that a customer who is not on a forum will have been in touch with the ISP thus making the ISP aware there is a problem.

I still say that if they're posting on here asking for help, advice, information - whatever, it would be really helpful to actually state what they've already tried!

...and to post on here at past 10pm, and then go to bed seems absolutely pointless! - If someone had responded at that time of night, the answer would not have been seen

This, unfortunately is not correct, what really happens is that one person posts asking about a problem, lets say 5 people responds 'confirming' they also have issues, all you end up getting is the false sensation that there is a general problem and you dont need to inform your ISP as 'they are probably already working on it.

You should realize that 5 customers are approx 0.05% of MM customers. Multimax statistics show that upto 3% of our customers may have Internet issues (not always from MM side) at any given day and most of the problems, if not all, ends up being totally unrelated to each other.

Multimax usually sends sms or email when/if there is a general problem with the system. If you havent got one, your best bet for a quick resolution of your problem is contacting support.

If you switch off the power to your router and the power lead to the microwave dish on thhe roof, count to 10 then swith them back on. This is power cycling and it may solve the problem but not always.

I still maintain the view if you have a problem contact the supplier. It could well be that 500 customers have a problem at any one time. However, that does not mean it is a single, generic issue. Locations, power cuts, weather, Turkish cabling, et al all affect the internet speed. As pointed out earlier, if the post is a specific request for help then much more information is required. However, if posts are just a generalised 'bleat', then this forum is going downhill.

Just trying to be helpful.
So what everyone needs to do is contact their ISP as soon as they are having problems.
The only problem with that is that if it is a problem affecting a number of customers, trying to get through on the telephone or by other means would be frustrating to those customers and staff because there are only a certain amount of people in an office to deal with it.
The chances are then because of the frustration people take to forums to complain.
Although you say you send out text messages would it not be prudent to have a message put on a the various forums
so that those people who do not have access to a mobile phone (yes there are lots) would know there was a problem in their area, thus saving the office staff continuous repetitive enquiries.
What I tend to do if there is a problem with anything like Sky,Skype, hotmail,BT etc,is google it first just to see whether there is a problem as I am sure most people do,if there is then I sit it out and wait.

The provider, MM in this instance, have consistently asked its customers who experience problems with its service to contact them and not just post on here. They cannot resolve individual's problems via this forum. Why not do what they ask?

Tommysteel,The first poster was asking if anyone was having a problem as they were.A perfectly reasonable question.
How many times do people come on Kibkom and ask if anyone is having problems with water, electric, phones etc.
There was obviously a problem to a number of people in a certain area as poster 2 confirmed and I am sure there were others that didn't need to report further because they knew there was a problem and it would be sorted out quickly.
As regards it being an individual problem it obviously wasn't because normal service seems to have been resumed.

If my electricity supply fails after dark, before I check my own connection or contact Kibtech I look out of the window to see if Street Lights are on and my neighbours, If they are not I assume it is a localised failure and there is no point in wasting time on phone calls. I then look up the mountain to see if the lights are on in Bellapaise and St. Hilarion. If not I assume it is a general failure and will take longer. If it is daylight and there are no other indications, after checking the "fuse box" I may put a message on here to see if anyone else is having a power cut. It saves me time in trying to contact someone to help, and them time in answering phone or emails if the provider is already aware of the problem and dealing with it.

Others do similar with failures in the water supply and telephone connections..

I see absolutely no difference in someone checking if others are having internet problems by using the forum the check if others are experiencing the same.

Contacting the Multimax is not quite so quick and easy as they suggest - understandably if staff are under pressure because there is a problem and they are getting a lot of calls - and provided the enquiries are simple and polite I can understand why the object so strongly to simple checks here.

Was a time when I too did not understand "power recycling" and why it works. Thanks to asking here it was explained to me and has probably saved me and Multimax quite a lot of time and effort!

I repeat the question, "why not do what they ask?" There are at least three different methods of enquiry. Posting on here will neither resolve the problem or establish the cause of it - no matter how many subscribers are experiencing difficulties. Multi bayrum MM staff.

Tomysteele,If you had a number of neighbours who all subscribed to the same ISP and you had problems would you not first enquire with those neighbours to see whether they had the same problem.
If however your neighbours didn't have the same problem, then yes contact your ISP.
What is wrong with asking a question on kibkom (neighbours if you like) waiting to see if there is a reply or not and then making a decision based on any answer or not you receive.

Sorry I put the bloody post up, and I am up well past 10 pm. My whole point was not to get in touch with MM that late. I see I must be very careful what I post from now.

Can't help thinking we have gone the full circle and to avoid becoming a slanging match I am locking the thread.

Personally, I am with Multimax and have always managed to get through on the phone and have always found them helpful, but I agree that sometimes posting on the forum gives a heads up to others who have a problem that they are not alone and that it may be a wider problem than just the individual.
Please not the last comment is a personal one only.
