Doreen The Movie has been made by film-maker David Tristram, who was born in Quarry Bank near Dudley and now lives near Bridgnorth in Shropshire.

The film is a tongue-in-cheek parody of the life David remembered while growing up.

David, 58, said that compared to Hollywood movies his local indie film was made on the slenderest of budgets.

He said: “Our budget is probably just big enough to cover Tom Cruise’s typical sandwich bill.

“Luckily this style of comedy doesn’t rely on car chases, CGI or explosions.

“It’s just an affectionate tribute to the Black Country area, based on fond memories of characters from my youth.”

The main character Doreen won over the hearts of millions as a YouTube clip after playwright David revealed her to the world as suffering with ‘Lazy Cow’ syndrome.

After his YouTube creation went viral two sell-out stage show tours were created and an autobiography was published.

Davis said: “The film is the next instalment really.

“I wanted to try and capture the essence of the stage show on film for posterity as it were.

“Doreen is a lovable rogue but it is the lovable bit that counts. It was no good making her a villain.”

Viewers will see both rock legend Robert Plant and Wolves football hero Steve Bull make cameo appearances in the film.

Plant offers to tarmac Doreen’s drive while Bully leans over her fence to ask for his ball back.

As well as the Led Zeppelin and Wolves legends, BBC news presenter Nick Owen was also persuaded to take part and according to David proved to be a natural actor.

He added: “I wanted to include a few local icons arriving into Doreen’s surreal world.

“Our cameo stars were great fun.”

The film’s theme song, Black Country Kids written by David, is performed by Kingswinford artist Jess Silk and was produced by Stourbridge-based musician Rob Groucutt.

All the actors are based in and around the West Midlands with the star, Gill Jordan, being firmly rooted in Cheslyn Hay.

“As much as I loved Peaky Blinders, there are no phoney accents in this film,” said David.

The film will be screened at cinemas around the Midlands from tomorrow.

A number of the screenings are already sold out.
