UK Passport renewal procedure

Hi,
Just searched ALL the forums to no avail. I know that you have to download a form and send it to SPAIN by DHL cafe Boss but I understand that you have to get your photo verified by a UK official?!?!?!?!?!?

Easy enough in the UK but in the TRNC???

Anyone else had this problem. We do not have a UK address.

As far as I know it does not have to be signed by an official, someone in good standing ie. doctor, solicitor, MP, Civil servant, teacher etc... and no need for them to add address, just signature and profession. I may be wrong, can anyone on forum confirm?

would suggest to Looseboots that he looks up the web page,- just google U.K. passports or some such. Or ask someone in BRS, . It is the AGM on Saturday, so I could ask for him, unless he was ocming to the AGM

Not sure if this helps found it on the Travel & living abroad http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/

Photographs submitted with an adult renewal application accompanied by a previous passport may be accepted without a countersignature, if identity can be satisfactorily established by comparison of photographs.

clever Shoie - problem solved for the man! I tried to remember the page, but you found it. And useful for us to know. Actually I think a page is being set up to give all that info, which should be of use to forum members, but like all round tuits, we havne't got one, as in 'around to it.' But contirbutions would be welcome to make a list of helpful advice for ex pats in particular .

Thanks very much guys. Bit reluctant to send old passport off only for Madrid to decide ( for some weird reason ) that the photo`s are not sufficiently like each other. Then have to DHL all over again.

Having just gone through all the requirements recently, I thought this information might help those who need it.

If you are renewing a passport you only need the counter sign if your appearance has changed so much that the old passport and new passport photographs don't look like the same person.

As for the Lefkosa office, they have nothing to do with it.

Basically, fill in the online application form and post it from the DHL office after processing the online payment.

All the information is available on the attached site or pages available from this attachment.

I hope this helps but if I can help more, please IM me.

Yes Thank you. Where did you get your photo`s taken? We got ours done from the one next to HSBC Girne. We printed off the requirements and although they are very clear and all our head is in the picture, just feels a smidgen close.

Mr.RicK - where is the passport office in the UK, is it still Peterborough or is there more than one these days? Also, assuming you had to make an appointment, how far in advance did you do this? Mine runs out in March 2013 and would like to renew it when I am in the UK in July.

Thanks.

Jo

Unless they have changed the system you can do it at major post offices. Again suggest yo9u check the web page to ascertain just where you can. I did mine through the Post Office a few years back.

Yes you can do it at the post office. If you want to go to main Passort Office (Victoria is the one I know of) you need to make an appointment a few days before. They allocate you a time slot to arrive there and queue with 50 other people - but the service is quite fast - you then leave and return in 4 hours to pick up your new passport.

Good. glad it all helped. As to the U.K thing, some people like to go to U.K to renew rather than this new, expensive hassle of sending to Madrid. for some it is peace of mind to clutch it and take it to the official offices in U.K. why the heck should we have to send to Madrid??/ don't answer that - it is just that we do. But I got mine renewed through a post office in Kent. alan did through B.H.C. and that was a bit of a headache, although efficiently dealt with, but now it has to be madrid and ..... well, when mine needs redoing I think I will take a quick trip to U.K and take in some sights !

If it helps anyone else, we got our photos signed by Julie Younger at the HSBC Bank in Girne, and had no problems, passport arrived back in less then 4 weeks, which was quite a shock, but a nice surprise, good luck Looseboots, hope all is in order now.
