Bank holiday?
Hi, after reading an earlier post regarding a bank holiday on Thursday, can anyone expand on this. Are government buildings closed? And why are roads being closed, or am I getting things confused, any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Sue xx

Re: Bank holiday?
Hi Sue,
It's the Bayram (holiday) for the 'Foundation of Turkey'. Or to be more precise... The Turkey we know, was founded in 1923 Oct 29 by Mustafa Kemal (Atatürk) as its first president. He's the guy who adopted the Alphabet and other Western traditions into what was the Ottoman Empire.
It's a big national event, and I would be surprised if anything is open. I do know the schools are closed. As for the roads, they normally have a parade outside the Stadium in Nicosia, the main Famagusta road to Ercan from the Gonyeli roundabout. What time, I will try to find out, but it is usually mid morning/lunchtime.

Oh, yes I remember it now, thanks for the info, we had planned to go to Erülkü that day, probably best if we choose a different day. Thanks again. Sue xx
