Car rental and transfers options

We're planning our 7th TRNC holiday for early 2013. Our travel arrangements have evolved as the border restrictions have relaxed and for our last two visits we have flown Gatwick-Larnaca with taxi transfers to car rental offices in Lefkosa.
This has been trouble-free (can't say that about ANY of our four visits via Ercan!), but we've been looking to avoid the 5-hour flog from our home up to Gatwick by flying Easyjet from Bristol. Problem is, from there Easyjet only go to Paphos and transfers to TRNC cost a fortune.
We are wondering if it is possible to save money by hiring a car at somewhere like Lefke, which would mean a much shorter taxi ride from Paphos. Any advice gratefully received.

This is our first posting on Kibkom Forum. Never fancied joining Cyprus44, just a bit nervous at exposing ourselves to comment from some of the less thoughtful regulars, but Kibkom is much more our cup of tea.
