Controlling cat population ....
Went to the KAR office yesterday to get three tickets to have three female feral cats (who have taken up residence in our garden) spayed, a few weeks ago we were asked to give 70 YTL donation per cat, yesterday was told we had to give 130 YTL donation per cat !!!!!!!.How are people to keep the cat population under control when the donation has almost doubled in a few weeks.........most people ( including us ) cannot afford this price rise for feral cats.....can anyone explain this situation ?

turkey - KAR made public announcements about this increase in October - (hope the link works as i have not done a link before !!)

It is due to the TRNC vet association and their compulsary minimum rate for procedures which they insist all vets charge. It has also impacted on the number of cats KAR's cat catching team can collect for neutering every week.
It is not a decision taken by KAR and the vets who help them were upset about it too. But they must comply.
It is still a reduced rate compared to privately owned cats.

Yes ifonly, it comes out fine and as always clearly states KAR position. Everything comes down fairly and squarely to decisions made by Unions/Associations. KAR cannot act in isolation nor can the Vets.

It explains the situation on cost but unfortunately not what to do with the growing feral cat population.

It is only a long slow road of educating people to neuter their cats, as Kar spend so much effort trying to do. Myth of Sisyphus though, huge impossible uphill struggle now that it has gone this far
