Fly past in Girne today

We went to see the air display for Republic day, a celebration of TRNC, a day to show pride in your country, the display was as ever fantastic, such skill and precision.
Sadly the people sitting next to us were a disgrace, local people, they were feeding the children with a variety of snacks and the wrappers and peelings were just dropped on the floor, along with the empty water bottles, both children and adults soon turned the place into a rubbish tip.
I tried to point out the rubbish to a couple of women but they just smiled, shrugged and walked away leaving the debris behind them, how is this filthy country ever going to progress with that attitude.

We went down early to the Tourism harbour to visit the warship and submarine only to be told by a Policeman that Kimlik holders only could go on board.

Waste of time putting it in Cyprus Today really....

I do not condone littering at all, but it's not confined to this country. Have you ever seen the shameful scenes in UK post mass gatherings of any kind? The difference is that there is no one paid here to clear up the carnage immediately after.

Please don't take it personally Caveboy. About 8 years ago we actually got almost as far as the steps of the warship and were very rudely told that we were foreigners and not permitted. We had been told that if we took our blue cards we would be OK, but it was not to be.

I know what you're saying but this is not the same thing, this was three young women with eleven children who were all just dropping their rubbish where they stood. The country is filthy, wherever you go you see rubbish, if this is not dealt with by the authorities we will all disappear under a pile of filth. I am getting very tired of living amongst other people's rubbish so what must tourists think when they come here.

Whilst I too despair at locals' attitude to litter, we all have choices available to us. If it makes you tired or angry, leave and live elsewhere. Tourists will vote with their pockets and not return, despite the Minister's declared intent of gaining 3 million tourists.

I lived in the trnc for 6 years and all the moaning about rubbish will not change a thing. I have driven behind a police car and saw a water bottle come flying out of the window !!
Still got a little place there but would never live there full time again. No dead dogs dumped in our park here !!

If I could find someone stupid enough to buy my house I'd give it some serious thought.

My experience was very different, my husband was made welcome and did not require any documentation to board the sub and was given a personal tour by an English speaking crew member. It was a pleasure to watch all the Cypriot people and their children playing and interacting together. The Turkish stars are the finest display team in the world....remember this was all for free. Why not celebrate what is fantastic on this Island? OK the rubbish is a problem....it will get better. Nobody forced you to come to live here, and you know where the airport is

No, nobody forced us to come here and yes we do know where the airport is thank you. On reflection maybe my standards are higher than some peoples, I have never lived in filth and don't enjoy doing so now.
My point was, this could be a beautiful country but it is being spoiled by the actions of those who have no respect for it, it would appear the rose coloured glasses brigade are around again and nothing is wrong in paradise.

I think the point is you bemoan the actions of others, who fail to reach your self-imposed standards, and whinge about it on a public forum. If you cannot 'live in filth', take the obvious action and move to your own 'paradise', wherever that is. Other posters have all acknowledged the litter problem here.

Personally speaking
What an excellent Air display lasted nearly 50 minuets,

You can't change the way the Locals treat the litter problem, all we can do is not add to it,use rubbish bins, take our rubbish home,
Please don't say. "if you can't beat them Join them" be better than them, you never know it may just rub off on a few

Nearly all the beauty spots in the TRNC are covered by litter and bottles/cans. A few on the spot fines would not go amiss

To fine would require:
A law to be passed.
Enforcement/staff/money.
Legal challenge/appeal procedure.

Can you honestly see the TRNC Government doing this? It doesn't enforce traffic laws, parking, motor cyclists helmets etc.
