Does anyone know what happened to Canada Optics? They used to have a shop in Girne near the old Astro supermarket. Not sure if they have gone out of business or just moved.

If they have gone, any recommendations re optician in the south please.

Many thanks.

http://www.aaoptical.com/ Walking distance as only 10 minutes from Kyrenia Gate. Best optician I have found in 64 years! Will reglaze your existing frames if you wish as well. Good with email, excellent English, will explain anything to you. I recommend this place above all other's. Contact them via email first at info@aaoptical.com and address it to Pars Adourian as he is the optician. Good luck.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

It is well known that every year on the anniversary of the TRNC UDI the education ministry in the south allow students to demonstrate. It is a disgrace but that is how it is. I am surprised that any TC with half a brain would go South around that anniversary date. The violence was entirely predictable. Happens every year if the little darlings can find a target. Not difficult for them to find a TC reg car around the border crossing areas. The GC police of course do nothing to stop them. Why would they?
Otherwise there are very few reports of trouble during the rest of the year. Avoid dates that may be controversial and things are fine.

For me 'why not' is because I live in the North, I support the North and I would not buy in the South anything I can get here.

In fact I've only crossed 3 times in 10 years and that was to get friends from Larnaca - but I did buy a coffee while I was waiting once. Good coffeee too!

I would be happy to support the North and not ever shop in the South, but when I see the huge number of TC's shopping in the South there seems little point in my gesture. The locals don't have a problem with going South so when needs must I go too.
I know more than a few people who won't go South 'on principle' but they are perfectly happy to ask those that do to buy pork, lamb and other foodstuffs for them. That's an 'interesting' position to take. There's a word for it - hypocritical seems to fit.

I don't criticise those who go nor preach about it - it is just not for me.

They've closed the Karakum Branch but still have the main branch opposite the Hospital in Lefkosa

Well said JBA couldn't agree with you more. We have lived here 8 years and have never been to the South, we also have never asked anyone to bring anything from there either. All our visitors come through Ercan so no need for us to go.

As regards the comment that TC's are happy to go, I would think that a lot of them are misplaced persons originally from there and feel it is as much their right as the GC's feel it is their right to take all the North back. Rant over as off topic.

Would also like recommendation for decent optician in the North.
