another hard luck dog story

A beautiful setter type dog turned up at our house in Karsiyaka. I put a post on the find our pets Facebook page and amazingly someone came forward to say that he had bred the dog and given it away. He tagged his friend who had given the dog to, but surprise surprise he doesn't seem to want the dog back and has clearly dumped it somewhere as it hasn't performed well during its first hunting season. He is a timid boy, 10 months old, black and white. He is good with our cats, lovely with other dogs and would make someone a really lovely pet. Just wants to be loved. If anyone feels that they could offer him a home please get in touch. We are not in a position to take another pet..we have 7 already.

Makes you sick doesn't it. My daughter has a spaniel that is in the process of being trained to be a gun dog i.e. learn to pick up, to retrieve, not to shy away from the noise of the guns, not to bark and all the other training. It costs a lot of money to go to a special trainer before she is allowed to go on a shoot and even then she will be kept on a lead at the rear for a while. These poor dogs are stuck in a cage at the back of a car, dragged up the mountain and then they are absolutely terrified. They are dumped, left in the mountains or in some cases as I have seen for myself, shot in the head between the eyes. And they are the lucky ones, at least it was instant.

As you say sophie, if they don't want them, I hate to say it but a bullet between the eyes must be preferable to a life on the streets. I have read over the years in Spain more atrocious practices which I will not mention here.

Thank you for your replies. We have been in contact with the person who was reliably identified as the dogs owner, who at first denied he had a dog and then later admitted it was his dog but insisted he had given it away and not personally dumped him. He is so sweet natured, he needs to go to a home where he is loved and not expected to perform with bullets being shot.
He will do well in a home with a settled dog to teach him the ropes and can be with cats...one of mine attacked him this morning and he didn't retaliate at all.
He seems to have a slight hip issue and this most likely because he has been fed a terrible diet and not given any exercise until the fateful day he was dumped.
If anyone would like to meet him please get in touch.
