Electric Company Deposit
Can someone kindly explain to me how the deposit for KIBTEK is calculated. The basic amount payable on an apartment and why do I need a Turkish Cypriot as a guarantor?
Many thanks

Re: Electric Company Deposit
The deposit required by Kibtek is 469 TL - if you have a Turkish Cypriot guarantor.
If you don't - the amount is three times that; i.e. 1407 TL.
The reason is that (for example) if you are a "swallow" or decide to sell up and depart, the deposit will go toward any outstanding bill. If you have a TC guarantor, he/she will be liable, and the loss risk to Kibtek is less.... (?)
The "three times" effect is mentioned in the FAQ section on the Kibtek website - if you use Chrome browser, this will translate.
The above is correct; I discovered this when arranging connection two months ago.
The deposit is said to be refundable; a few posts over different forums calim to have been successful when they applied.

Re: Electric Company Deposit
When we bought 7 years ago, we had to pay TL1500 as a bond, even though we were taking over the property from a couple retuning back to the UK.
How it calculated is probably as complicated as there billing system, I still haven't received my bond back, even though we were told it was refundable after we have set up a monthly DD
It however makes me wonder if the Local TC have to pay this, as Deniz 1 pointed out

Re: Electric Company Deposit
When I went to the Kibtec office in Girne to give my email address for the new billing system, I asked about (having recently bought the property) getting the account changed into my name. I was given the cost as already outlined and then I was asked why I was bothering. Providing the bill gets paid each month then it really doesn't matter whose name is on the account. Needless to say I haven't bothered to change the name.

Re: Electric Company Deposit
One of the conditions of our sale when we bought our villa was that all utility bills be changed into our name. I think the charge for changing at Kibtek was 400+tl. I assumed the vendor had reclaimed his deposit. Had to take passport & proof of sale with copy of deeds to do so.

Re: Electric Company Deposit
All the above are correct, I rent, and the villa had been empty for six years and the electric had been disconnected, the landlord was not willing to pay to have it reconnect and wanted the bills put in my name, I could not find a TC to be guarantor for me, so it cost me 1440tl to have it reconnected. My understanding is that if I leave the property I will get my deposit back.
