Water Bill

Hi all,

Just received our water bill from Alsancak Belediye. and noticed the item near the bottom that says: Beledye Vergileri and were charged 65.22tl. It struck me as being high so I checked my previous bills, and have noticed that from October 2013 the charge for this 'item' has been 14.17tl up until September this year, when it changed to 39.17tl, October was 39.17tl, now this latest for 65.22. We haven't had a new meter fitted as yet, but I was wondering if anyone had a reasonable explanation for the high increases over the last 3 months for this 'Vergileri' ?

Thanks in anticipation for your replies,

Regards,

John

Just checked my last bill dated 6/11 and Belediye Vergileri is showing as 14.17. Have you paid the property tax this year, I can't think of any reason why yours should have increased.

We have new water meter and understand the new procedure for buying water but, do we still expect a bill with the other items on it, ie street cleaning, lights etc??

Lapta are no longer issuing bills. They say that you can check what you owe when you go up to buy your water.

Sorry, did reply but hasn't come up.

Yes went to Belydere, who said that the extra over the normal 14.17tl was for garden waste collection. When I asked why there were varying amounts he said that if we had a small pile it was 25tl, and a large pile was 50tl. We have had garden waste collected many times over the last few years and never been charged any more than the 14.17tl.

As there were about 4 small and 1 large pile of garden waste around about our 5 houses, which combined easily went on the lorry, with room for quite a few more piles, I think they have cottoned on to another 'scam the Brits' scheme! I did ask how the driver determined whose pile was which, and who would be charged for the bigger pile, that's when the shrug appeared.

I would like to see some of the Turkish & TC's bills to see what they pay, but then I suppose we should be used to the rip offs by now.

Thanks to all who replied,

Regards,

John.

As I reported in another post, Lapta have now decided to hugely increase the charges for collecting loose garden rubbish. The approved method is now to hire a skip from them for 58tl. The one they delivered to me was taken within 24 hours and only half full.

It's about making money - not about providing a service.

The answer then I suppose is to try get as many neighbours as possible to chuck in all their stuff and try and divvy the cost up. Don't leave the skip for long though, otherwise you'll get passing cars and vans, chucking all manner of crap in it - probably at night.
