Hi

Does anyone have any advice on killing off tree stumps. I keep cutting them down but when we come back, they've grow again like weeds. I'm using the general forum for this post to get replies ASAP rather than relying on the gardening forum. Thanks

Drill holes in the stump, and keep pouring in neat weedkiller.

If you can get hold of a one of these http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/FCTG001. ... CTG001.pdf you will find it's the best way of getting stumps out of the ground rather than poisoning them. I've used one several times, quite cheap in UK from Screwfix.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glyphosate

This is the right one to use... and it is approved by the Forestry Commission in the TRNC

We drilled 4 holes in each stump and then poured about quarter of a cup full of neat bleach in each hole. Worked extremely well although one particular stump needed a couple of goes.

Drill holes as deep as possible into the top of the stump and fill these with either rock salt or Epsom salt. Add hot water to dissolve the crystals. Cover the top to minimise evaporation and keep the holes wet - maybe even add more salt occasionally.

Our gardener removed all our hedging...huge stumps. He just used the chain saw to saw through the stump and assures me it will die off.

I think it depends on whether you are referring to hedging or trees. Original poster was talking about trees.

Thanks everone for the advice. I'll give them a try. Forgot to mention I have a problem with shrubs as well, buggers grow from nowhere.
