Always managed to get them in Illeli in the past but closer to Christmas. Would not want to get them now and keep them!

Keith, I think your mother and mine must have known each other. It was about now that mine started preparing the custard (no cream in our house sadly) It was so thick you could have plastered walls with it. Come to think of it, the hall was a peculiar shade of yellow.

I'm pretty sure there is in most children our our generation a certain mystery about how cooks achieved that shade of grey sprout no longer part of our diet... I wouldn't know where to begin but dinner ladies seemed able to reproduce it week in week out with little or no difficulty. Then they threw all the goodness away with the water!

Starling on the Bellapais Road are selling fresh sprouts in pre-weighed packs - they're on top of the cheese deli counter so easily missed!

They will be quarantining them just to get at the Expats (or so some will think), god forbid we get a power cut Christmas day (again just to spoil the expat's fun, or so some will think).

Cheers to you all, from my half full glass!

Oh my God(Allah) please forgive me for being in your beautiful country. The sunshine, scenery, lovely people, but İ do not understand why no sprouts or parsnips for my fellow Brits......you know God/Allah the vegetables that we always had at home in cold, rainy Britain. The vegetables that need a cold frost to make them delicious.....NO,please no cold frost here !!!!Get a grip you Brits, easiest way to get sprouts and parsnips is go to Ercan !!!Use local vegetables. We have sweet potato in garden, delicious leaves as a green.
Look at all the fresh vegetables in the shops.Use them. Please this is not Lıttle Britain.

Have a lovely Sprout-free Xmas

An Ode to Brussel sprouts

Brussel sprouts, Brussel sprouts how I do love thee?
I love thee for your crunch when I saute you slight.
I love thee for your warmth when the fall turns into night.
I love thee caramelized with crisp bacon and palm.
I love thee halved and baked with maple syrup and Dijon.

Dearest Brussel sprouts, you are so misunderstood.
GIVEN ANOTHER CHANCE, YOU WILL LOVE THEM, YES YOU WOULD.
