Windows 10.
Morning all. Have decided to upgrade to Windows 10. I have a query for any computer techno's on the forum. Left the laptop during the day & night to do its own thing. Seems it won't go past 84% of the upgrade. How long does it take to load. Any info please would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Windows 10.
Having upgraded to W10 on 3 different systems, i found that if there is anything else which is running at the same time - which is also scheduled to upgrade itself (virus checker/firewall or other program) W10 seems to either go on 'hold' or stop.
Also if you have an interruption in the internet signal during the upgrade, this also causes W10 to stop downloading/upgrading.
I would seem that you have to cancel the upgrade and start all over again. There is nothing shown on Microsoft support about this, apart from a general topic on incompatibility. You should also turn off any power savers which put your PC/laptop to sleep after a set period of time.
Hope this helps

I also upgraded. It took many hours to do, I am not sure exactly how long, as I had to go out for some time.
The upgrade worked, but I then found that if I had to restart for any reason, or if Windows updates were installed, it then took several hours to load up again.
I ended up with a new laptop.

Re: Windows 10.
Thanks for replies. This is my third attempt, been stuck on 84% for several hours now. Our internet has been poor on & off recently. Have talked to our server, was better for a while, done a recent speed test & it has been as low as .9 in last 24 hours, this probably is the reason. Will go back to Windows 7 I think. Thanks again for replies.

Use this link
http://venturebeat.com/2015/07/29/how-t ... ws-update/
It worked for me two times (i.e. on two different computers) once 32 bit and once 64 bit...
Hope it helps.

Morning Groucho, thanks for that. I tried yet again with conventional way over past 12 hours & yet again it stuck on 84% for last 6 hours. At the present we are experiencing variable internet speeds,am taking router in to our supplier today on their suggestion to get it checked out. I will try your link later. Will inform if it is successful. Thanks again.

Hi. Your issue is not related to your internet connection. The Win 10 upgrade will not start before it has already downloaded all the necessary files to do the upgrade. It does not download anything as part of the upgrade process.Becker wrote:Morning Groucho, thanks for that. Your issue is there is something on the laptop that is causing the upgrade process to fail and unfortunately it does not fail 'gracefully' stopping and telling you it has failed (and what the cause is) but just locks up at a certain % in to the upgrade process. I had the same with a machine I was upgrading and after literally days of trying to resolve the issue by un-installing everything from the machine I could I eventually resolved it by doing a fresh install of a legitimate licensed copy of windows 7 and then running the win 10 upgrade option (this time from USB stick having got fed up of downloading it repeatedly via windows update and having it fail). Details of my 'trials' can be found here http://www.kibkomnorthcyprusforum.com/v ... 0&p=126386 post 56 in that thread.
Hopefully you have some kind of recovery option on your laptop that will allow you to take it back to 'factory default settings' - basically restore it back to the state it was in when you first bought it. If you do then you will have to do this, which will remove all your data and and anything else you have added to the machine since you bought it. Then you can either download onto USB the win 10 upgrade and run it from there, or let windows update do the 100's of updates that will be needed and eventually download the win 10 upgrade option and then run it. Almost certainly the upgrade will then run without problems. Do not however put a 'dodgy' version of windows onto the laptop and then try and upgrade to win 10 as this will not give you a proper license for the win 10 version you end up with.

Re: Windows 10.
Just one small possibility - over the years, with various successive systems, I have (on odd rare occasions) had problems installing and/or updating software to the degree that nothing happens and I am reaching for a hammer - finally I remember the last time it happened - and I check the time and date on the machine!
For some unknown reason or cause (not cmos battery), it might only be about an hour out - but it stops everything! Once corrected, installation/upgrading works perfectly - as said, rare, but worth checking!
