A 10-year-old Muslim boy who mistakenly wrote that he lived in a "terrorist house" during an English lesson at school has been investigated by police.
The pupil, who attends a primary school in Lancashire, meant to say he lived in a "terraced house".
The boy was interviewed by Lancashire Police at his home the next day and the family laptop was examined.

I do feel that this kind of incident would be best dealt with in the first instance by a teacher that knows the pupil having a word with them and establishing why they wrote what they did, regardless of the religion of the pupil. Any teacher should be concerned with a child writing they live in a 'terrorist house', if only for concern for the welfare of that child. It does seem to me that this recent legal requirement on teachers to report anything 'suspicious' has resulted in this being dealt with in an unnecessarily excessive manner.

Yes, heard this on the news - it was stated that (as Erol says) teachers are legally required to notify any and all indications of "radicalisation" - so if a teacher didn't and it came out, that teacher would be highlighted in the news.
However, while the Police questioning was highlighted - who knows of what it consisted? Perhaps they only asked what the lad meant by terrorist, and once he explained, end of questions! But then, that would not be a good "news" story - never let accuracy spoil effect...

The latest snippet says that it "....was dealt with by a joint visit by a PC and a social worker." So perhaps it was unnecessarily hyped up by the media on a low-news day....

Another example of paranoia overcoming common sense and the possibly innocent suffering. No doubt neither the teacher nor Police had any choice : they would be dammed if they did and dammed if they didnt.!

Surely the context would make an error clear: there is a difference between "I live in a t............... house, and the walls are so thin the neighbours' TV keeps me awake at night" and " I live in a t...............house and Daddy makes bombs in the basement"`!

We cant judge without knowing the circumstances. The fact the report hints at other grounds for suspicion but does not specify makes it worse.

And yes, that is just the sort of thing that, however sensitively handled, could put a sensitive child off creative writing.
