Can anyone tell me if the Citizen Advice Office in Ozankoy is still operating. I have been trying to contact Pembe since November by phone and email without any success

I've also been trying to contact Pembe, Citizens Advice without success. No reply to the office phone or Pembe mobile. Be good to know if or when she will be back.

You can try asking Ali in the cafe next door his wife Maggie started working there just before Christmas.

Try Facebook, up to date replies on subjects there, so someone will pick up.

I passed the office this morning, it was locked and looked empty. There was notice on the door, but it was just the usual opening times. Such a shame as it was a useful and helpful facility.

I've just looked on Facebook and she has replied to someone saying she is back in NC at the weekend.

Good job nothing important then. perhaps people should keep this in mind when handing over cash to be a member of a place thats closed for so long.

Typical isn't it? The very place that a lot of people have turned to for help, turns out to be just as bad (or at least that's how it appears, doesn't it)

Doesn't take long to realise, having met them and handed over the membership , that it is seems yet another scam praying on innocent people who genuinely need help, a common denominator here on what some people call "paradise island" ! well it may be for the tricksters who take our hard earned money and deliver nothing in return. too many burgers in my opinion.

While I agree there are too many scams here, I do not think we should judge this one too soon on inadequate evidence. I know of at least one case in which there was an offer to waive the fee in compassionate circumstances.

There may yet turn out to be extenuating circumstances, an emergency in the UK or a let down by someone who was supposed to put up notices etc.

Has anyone who was in the process their services been let down in the middle of a transaction? Come to think of it, has anyone used them and were they satified or dissatisfied with the service.?

RR, whilst I have not used the service offered by Citizens Advice, Cyprus, I would have expected a para-legally qualified practitioner to have notified clients of an extended absence via social media, personal email etc. I do know of one high profile, well reported upon, case of dissatisfaction with this organisation a few years ago. I hope it turns out well for those who have paid for a service. Unlike me, who was duped by a Girne-based advocate into a contract he walked away from.

Yes Tom, a lot of us are suffering from loss of hard earned savings in circumstances we feel bitter about - not necessarily always with Cypriots and/or lawyers. In the case of Citizens Advice I was impressed by my first meeting with Pembe, but other issues and the fact that £50 is a lot to me, delayed me following it up, and I am now wondering whether I had a lucky escape in this instance! which is why I wondered about others' experiences.

I still do not think we should throw too many stones, unless or until the circumstances become clear. Admittedly a brief glance through the window but it did not like look somewhere someone had left not intending to come back.

This is still Cyprus and after all this time here, it still amazes me how many people leave their businesses for unspecified periods of time, or even move, without due notifiication to customers.

There are a few clues on the web site which appears more about advertising, Cyprus history and leisure activities than showing successes or warnings, challenging poor practice or even giving advice. Compare it with the old HBPG site which in its prime gave people a wealth of information at no charge. Does not appear to be much enthusiasm to be productive.

I went into the Citizens Advice office near Catalkoy this afternoon and spoke to Pembe, who assured me that she was open for business as usual, and is still collecting plastic bottle tops.

Hopefully we will receive a full explanation as to why Pembe went walk-a-bout for 2 months without contact. In this modern age of global communication there is no reason to vanish. The service she provides is a help to her clients but her recent exploits leave much to,be desired and are very worrying.

Any colour plastic bottle tops I.e blue water bottle tops, coloured tops from milk or juice cartons etc they are exchanged for money for wheelchairs which are donated to needy families.
We have an old 19litre container we post ours in on our site and donate when we get a black sack full.
