You can say that again!

Previous years I got some artificial logs from various Supermarkets in packs of 5 or 10. Not sure if it was the same thing.

These were made from compressed wood chipping with (presumably paraffin or some kind of fire lighter). They were cleaner than ordinary logs, easier to carry and store and lit instantly.

However in an open fireplace I found they also burnt much quicker so , although I never did the maths of cost per log, I felt they worked out a lot more expensive.

I tended to use them towards the end of winter, when logs stored outside (even under cover) tended to be damp and hard to light to start a fire and/or whenI only needed a fire for an hour or two, and it wasnt worth ordering a full load of normal logs.

How much are the Chimera logs, Bill? btw I googled them and they are available on ebay and at UK Tescos but I suppose the cost of transport?

PS One year one of the garages in Girne was selling some kind of coal briquette - presumably something like coke? They did not give a good roaring fire like wood does, but for the less severe weather when one needed background heat they smouldered for a long time. Again easier to store and carry. I would be interested if anyone has seen these - preferably East of Girne.

The garage was opposite the old Astro, he stopped importing this type of fuel a number of years ago. They were made from coal dust, we use to call the coal eggs.

I used them last year for a few weeks, they burn well, give out good heat but are expensive, log burners burn them away v quickly.
