Filmon buffering problems (again)

Post by Doubtful George »

I like a bit of UK TV in the winter evenings as I don't go out much (sad) ! All was ok until this past week when it buffered and buffered and buffered sometimes almost at the exact times. Having spoken to my Internet supplier and TV android box supplier they assure me that there is a problem in Turkey ! Whilst I have every confidence in these people, who have proved to be nothing but great with any previous problems, I have not seen any other posts on the forum with regards to this problem , Its making live TV impossible.

Thank you ! Its great to say its problems within Turkey but what problems ? does anybody know ? perhaps its political as if technical would normally be sorted quite quickly. Any info from the internet people who are usually very quick to defend their corners ?

Calm down just internet supplier problems, nothing political. These things happen from time to time. Could be weather or technical. It will right itself, in the meantime watch a dvd .

Oh dear, must be the Winter blues. Please share the DVD you watched about the backward country you refer to. I'm sure when you did your research before settling into this backward country you would have found there were no breweries to have a p*** up in and that you were under the umbrella of Turk Telecom in Turkey who are a monopoly suffering a lack of investment and from time to time s*** happens.

One of the things that I find so appealing when in the TRNC is the relaxed, laid back, "yavaş" way of life.....
A problem? Don't worry, it will right itself.... or it can be sorted tomorrow...
No TV? OK, I'll read a book, watch a DVD or go to the bar....
Life's too short to worry; life can be prolonged by relaxing and enjoying it....there are so many different things to do....
If not, I'll return home to the UK, suffer the government and develop ulcers, heart attacks and an early grave......

jofra, perhaps poor Doubtful-George doesn't appreciate that when you come to enjoy a relaxing time in a laid back Country, then you can hardly expect all those around you to do otherwise...

And of course the internet works flawlessly in the UK - just have a look at the comments here for example

http://downdetector.co.uk/problems/bt-british-telecom

or here

http://downdetector.co.uk/problems/sky

When I first came to live in Cyprus 12 odd years ago internet access was via pay per minute dial up modem. In the 12 years I have been here internet access in terms of speed have increased in excess of 2 orders of magnitude. Cost per byte / second has similarly decreased and generally reliability has increased. If my car fuel economy had increased by comparable amounts in the same period my car that would use about 8 litres of fuel to do 100km 12 years ago would today do around 10,000km on the same 8 litres of fuel.

The internet is a global network of networks. When I access the bbc website from my computer here the data first travels over my internal network in my house, then out to my ISP network, it is then passed onto Turk Telekom's network, who in turn will pass it out to one of their suppliers network's and typically from there it will pass to the BBC ISP providers suppliers network, from their on to the BBC's ISP network and finally onto the BBC network. It is a complex system involving many different companies and elements and it is as far as I am concerned a wonder of modern technology that it works at all even for non sub second critical data like text emails, let alone services like streaming video or live voice communication.

Keith, I am sorry I am far from poor, its not the place its the people and yes I cant wait to get out as I did make a mistake and admit it . Unfortunately invested a huge amount of money in a property here which is going to take time to sell which I accept unlike most who rent run down hovels yet seem to be "happy" ! this is so off subject that a moderator should close this as I said before the subject has been addressed and does not need to revert to nasty comments. Erol, I have had a home in the UK for the time I have been here. I visit very often and the house is occupied by family permanently with no problems at all with the internet and great speed. I do not expect this service here but do think that the service providers should point out the ongoing problems to everyone. ie yes we can supply internet, but not ideal for streaming TV, and we are in the hands of Turkey. but no mention of this strangely.I wonder why ? Dont bother replying I know your answer.
