I grew up listening to Wogan daily. I loved his dry wit and sense of humour. To me he was at his best on the Eurovision song contest. He, like me had no interest in the contest but laughed at the politics going on. It was even funnier as he got more and more pissed as the night went on. Great times. He always sounded as though he was speaking to just me and my father. They were both proud Limerick men and it's as though I've lost another dear friend today along with my dad last year. Many thanks Sir Terry.

Listening to the posts on here, it brings home the sad fact, that all to often you don't appreciate the brilliance of some people until they are gone!

The TogMeister Extrordenier. I loved him to bits, in the mornings yonks ago, when I was in a particularly bad place, he was the only thing that got me out of bed. Its no exaggeration to say that without his Janet and John, his everlasting belief that people went to Milton Keynes and were never seen again, the Lighthouse just off the M62 (or wherever) and the British Rail lady announcer who sounded just like a demented parrot were the only reason I didn't pull the "blanket over my head" You could always tell if someone in the car next to you was listening to him on the way to work, it was wonderful to see people roaring with laughter. God Bless him.

I couldn't have put it better myself, R.I.P Sir Terry, you will be sadly missed.

His references to 'Benny from Crossroads' (with the tea-cosy on his head) always brightened my mornings.

Sadly missed.

A bit like old times this morning. I switched on Kindle and spent time listening to his Barbs and Put Downs over the years on the Eurovision S.C. Absolute classics. It was interesting to hear his views on Jimmy Saville which he voiced a long time ago "A vile, evil talentless, egotistical nobody, who gives me the creeps" He said that everyone from the Director General to the Tea Lady was aware of what he was up too but he like everyone else kept their mouths shut, which he regretted especially when he was on Children in Need.

If this is so, a very sad admission, which could lower the esteem in which he is held....

I don't see why, I know it just needs one to be a whistleblower, but it takes a very, very tough person to be the first, particularly as he said, it was an open secret through the whole of the BBC. That being the case someone far up the ladder could have done it. Jean Rook the Journalist (who said she was also aware) was sitting at the same table, but even she, who at the time appeared to be totally fearless said nothing. It doesn't take anything away from the man, and as he said, he bitterly regretted not being the first to put his head over the parapet.
