Another bit of specious nonsense to counter the indefensible.... People who don't smoke do not want to smell like they do...end of.

Obfuscation is not an opinion - just how many postings of your opinion are warranted on a 'weak subject'? I mean why bother if you are not that concerned?

Weak subject to you perhaps Becker, but your opinion shouts selfish smoker and 'please don't talk about us smokers as we are above every one else' .

My opinion, smoking was being allowed in an enclosed area of a restaurant, which apart from being illegal is very unpleasant to non smokers.
My choice, to leave the restaurant, if others choose to go there, fine, that's up to them.
My right, to choose whether or not to share other peoples smoking habit.
End of story as far as I am concerned.

So agree Elizabeth. The law is the law and there are very few justified exceptions in breaking it. If others wish to and live by the consequences, then not for me to judge (except with voting with my feet and pocket).

Rights are another matter again - often not legislated for or against, but rights nevertheless.

But before this thread goes off topic into the realms of philosophy, ethics, human rights etc, I think it is time for me to lock it. Elizabeth is satisfied with her own stance, and some interesting statements have come out of it.

Of course if anyone wishes to discuss the issue of situational ethics, then do please start another thread.

( I would say I started smoking when the done thing - everybody did it- but then I learned of the dangers to myself, my loved ones and the world in general (including my wall paper and ceilings) so stopped from my 40 plus a day to nil to try to live long and also help others to live long. Not sure about 'prosper' (Live long and prosper!)
