Residency costs

Sorry if the word 'residency' offends anyone, but that is the word I use for being given permission to continue to reside here.

My quesiton is: Has anyone been to renew residencdy in the last few weeks and if so, what is the cost, please. I know all the other rules and regs, but have no idea of costs.

Looked at the TRNC site - nothing. Looked at BRS SITE - NOTHING (THE PAGE GETS STUCK ON SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE hIGH c OMMISSION,L)(sorry, caps stuck)

So, please, having excaused all the DIY avenues and drawn a blank - I need help. Please,l someone.

My wife and I renewed ours at the end of January this year at a cost of TL266.00 each for the year plus the usual stamps of TL10.50.
2 years would have cost us double this amount.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate that quick repsonse.

Sorry I meant to ask - do they take Credit Cxards yet, or are we still in the 'dark ages' of cash only?

Thanks all. If they take credit cards that will be terrific. Only this morning Alan asked if two years was cheaper, but it appears it is mor.e So, one year will do. Stranghe accounting, but, I guess they know what they are doing and why, and mine not to reaosnwhy!

All I want is citizenship.

As one of my favourite songs says 'If you don't have a dream - how you gonna have a dream come true"

I feel a little cheated cos the reason I came here was to be a citizen in 5 years. Ho hum! But I prefer a dream to a nightmare.

Our 'residency' ran out at the end of January.
We returned to TRNC on the 13th of Jan after spending Christmas in the Uk.
Are we entitled to the 90 days free visitors permit before we need to renew or will be fined for late application?

It may not be too bad Marion, my friends were straight in and out yesterday morning, no more than half an hour. They said there were 5 desks operating.....so, fingers crossed for you.

Nice kind helpful staff. Not n another brit in sight. And much easier than 13 years ago.
One thing for sure I won't be going for perm residency.
Thanks again toeveryone for the help.
Have a great day.

Yes we paid by credit card so could pay for 2 years.
Also worth noting that you have to pay commission if buying the stamps at the cafe. They take a small commission but I guess they are worth it.

When you apply again for temp residency, they will simply back date it to continue from the previous expiry date. You won't benefit in having temp residency date delayed for 3 months due to the 90 day visitors permit. As far as I am aware, there is no fine.

Agree Toastlady. Today we were several days late due to the late arrival of my husband's new passport. Our new stamp runs from 28th Jan when the former visa expired. Obviously being just a few days late, no one questioned. I guess you can wait awhile before renewing, but for continuity, may be best to go as soon as you can, as you gain nothing timewise.

By the3 way, I was 'amused' to see that the heading of the form filled in with details etc contained the word 'Residency'.

Thanks for confirming Marion. Was the charge for 2 years indeed more than double for one year?

I was out of the country (TRNC) for an unplanned lengthy visit to the UK a few years ago, and my temp residency fell within that time out of the country. I was given 90 days when I came in at Ercan, with the nice chap saying that there was no rush, as I was a bit apprehensive due to my residency having lapsed. I did query at Immigration about being backdated, and they told me that you had to be out of the country for a full six months to enable a change in your temp residency date. To be sure, better check with Immigration, as things do change here.

Yes t hings do change quickly here, and one often doe s not get to hear of the change until a change is made to the change!

The cost for two years was 566tl each, so yes, more than double one year. But it works out at just over £1 a week - so no grumbles!

I was really amazed that there wa s not even one other Brit there. Maybe they are opting for the over 60's 'perk' , or have lef,t or are going for Permanent Residency (???) but it is the first time i have been when there was not a fellow ex pat there (apart from myhusband of course).

Maybe there is a secret in the days. We went on a Thursday and as Alan said as we were driving towards the centre 'Where is everyone'.
Good luck!
