Chiangbill, thank you so much for that. Extremely helpful. Am getting a second opinion tomorrow. As someone has said on this forum, we only have one pair of eyes and we must take care.

Thanks for info. It served me very well. Decided to get second opinion. Went to Kolan Hospital and asked for eye test. Never mentioned that I had been told I needed cateract removed, despite seeing very well. Had thorough eye test by very nice man who spoke reasonable English. He told me that my eyes were very healthy and when I mentioned that I was aware of the start of cataracts, he told me that I certainly didn't need an operation yet. So thank you, KibKomers, as you saved me £800 that I would have been charged for one eye.

Are you able to tell us who erroneously told you that you had cataracts? It would help us all in the future to avoid whoever that was. Always worried that private health treatment could be seen as an easy source of income by some, and not needed always.

I have cataract in my left eye. NHS will not operate until it is extremely bad. Have had 3 opinions from opticians and all say just increase strength of spec lenses as did my GP. Cost of private care removal in UK is between £2K- £3K but if you want a nice holiday in India cataract removal there is... Wait for it... £285.00. Hmmnn!

I went to the eye clinic by the belapais lights for an eye test and was told I had cataracts on both eyes and she would have to remove them at £900 per eye. I decided to try kolan and was told by a very nice chap there that I did not have cataracts but an age degeneration thing. I was given tablets which have helped and also eye test results enabling me to get glasses.

Sammy Davis. I also went to the above eye clinic. I was advised by friends to get a second opinion which was why I ended up at the Kolan, like Terry (above). It really makes one think hard, sadly, but from now on I shall always seek a second opinion.

Yes I wonder what would have happened if I had said yes turned up and paid £1800 to have my cataracts removed ( which I did not have and walked out with nothing done ) quite frightening really. And not good for her reputation.
