Poor picture on a DVD
Is it possible to override and improve the colour on a DVD. Am going through the last series of Downton and some of the scenes are so dark they are almost impossible to see i Is it the DVD and can you alter what is on a DVD. Everything else is just fine.

Search for imtv on the internet. They haveall the series of Downton Abbey (and plenty more besides!). Completely free, and no VPN required.

Thought of that Erol, trouble is it would muck up TV appearance. Its definitely the DVD at fault, so will try fatouche and WotnoDeeds suggestions.

fatouche and WotnoDeeds. Have just looked at FilesFetcher and its free for one week, but can't discover how much it is after that. IMTV, I can't discovered how much that is at all. Not sure about giving all my card details to FF in the hope they will not take any out after the 7 day free, if I were to change my mind!!

Have you checked whether there are controls on/in your DVD player? Some (if not all) have them, and these could be tried instead of changing the TV settings.

I was watching all the series on imtv for over a year then i couldn't watch any as it was asking for payment. I subscribed and think it cost 90 euro a year. I finished all the Downton Abbey series months ago. İmtv is really up to date. 600 + series.

Sophie, use VLC Media player by Videolan (it's free) and you can then adjust the video settings without mucking up the TV.
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
Once installed play your DVD using this program and then:-
Right click on the screen and select 'Tools' then 'Effects and Filters' then the 'video effects' tab and you can adjust Hue, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation (amongst others) to get the picture you want....
This app is also good if you find you can't make-out dialogue because you can adjust the sound using the graphic equaliser in the Effects and Filters menu too.

Re: Poor picture on a DVD
Thanks everyone, at the moment I'll stick with IMTV, until such time as someone catches up and blocks it or it starts asking for too much dosh!! Certainly not too happy with some of the DVD's I've purchased lately, they used to be very good and I don't doubt that if I go back I would be given a new one. However, I suspect they are only as good as the original they work from.

I think that you tried to lure Sophie out of her 'Comfort Zone' though...
