not sure if it's the maximum but we drew out £1,000 from an ATM yesterday.

The HSBC ATM at Supreme is often reported on here for not working and swallowing cards... we have discovered that when the sun is low in the sky and hitting the touch screen, it gets so hot that it becomes unresponsive... i.e. no amount of pressing on-screen 'buttons' works. Some people leave their cards in so long that the machine swallows them.

This can be avoided by pressing the Iptal (cancel button) to get your card back before this happens... or feel the screen for heat before you start - if it's hot don't even attempt to use the machine...

Why they faced the ATM directly south - Allah alone knows.

Think it depends on which account you hold. We can withdraw £1k each per day with ours. HSBC Premier we have.

£1,000 for a premier and I think £200 if it is a normal account with HSBC, and I would not recommend that anyone uses that machine by Supreme.....it malfunctions, they know it, but do nothing about it......I always go to either the main Girne branch or the cash point by the dome, they both work fine. I will never use the Supreme one agaiin.

Halifax - £300...
Apparently it varies dependent on which bank and which precise type of account...

Admin, maybe another subject for the new "frequently asked Questions" section ? Just a thought, it does come up a lot.

Perhaps another case of 'type of account'? Last September (having jobs done and buying furniture) I had to make several withdrawals with my Halifax (debit) card, and was limited to £300 per day (with as said £1.50 charge).
Then again, could it be different types of accounts or different types of card i.e. debit card as opposed to credit card? Or which bank/company's ATM you use....?
Nothing's simple in this life.....

Nationwide Flex Account is brilliant - no fees no problem....

Please do heed the advice about the Supreme HSBC ATM - we've never had a problem but that's only because we follow this:-

Yes seeing the screen is also a problem but it's the heat that builds up during the morning sun that causes the screen to become useless - the touch-screen can not detect a finger when the screen is hot - it's not pressure activated so giving it a thump won't help! Other than to make you feel that at least you've vented your anger on the blasted machine....

HSBC - please arrange to have the machine either turned round to face north or shielded from the sun - one or other - it would cure both problems - but doing nothing leaves you open to ridicule.

couple of weeks ago I got £400 out of the HSBC atm in Girne. 8x£50 notes. I tried to exchange £200 into TL. The machine in the exchange wouldn't accept two of them. It being a Sunday, I waited until the following day and went to the HSBC bank. I asked for 10x£20 notes in exchange for the four £50's. I was given five £20;s and two £50's back. The teller refused to believe that their ATM had given ne the other two £50's. I argued but got nowhere. The teller advised me to exchange them "at another bank or an exchange that doesn't have a machine"

50GBP pounds are virtually impossible to exchange for goods in UK. Both Debenhams and MandS refused them when I was last in UK because they are supposed to be the easiest to fake. No-one bothered a bit here but maybe the banks have got the message now. However, Exchanges are still doling them out.
