Re: 1 year today
Lovely post and makes a refreshing change to see someone with positive thinking.
Here's hoping that your second year is as good as the first.
Been here just over 4 1/2 years and still love every single day!
Best wishes to you too!

It is often said that the first year is the hnoneymoon'; the second year you see the warts, and the third year youdecide whether to go or stay. It is good that a lot of people feel the warts are minimal to the beauty and the good things. Hope your next few years are even happier .
and thanks for sharing how happy you are. Very encouraging. We need more people who see the stars and not the mud!!!!

Not seen the mud for a few months now Marion, Could do with a bit of rain to cool things down. Must agree with the wife, a wonderful year meeting new people. You could never get this degree of friendlyness and helpfullness in the UK
All I can do is thank you all and promise my help and assistance to any newcomers to this wonderful Island

I wish you well Carol and Mick. I only lasted 3 years, but there were other reasons for that.
What I miss more even than the weather is the great social life I had there. No social life here in Germany, they are a miserable shower of beggars.

Carolhm, I don't know whether you came over here to retire, we did. Retirement what the hell is that? My diary is so full of events, meetings, lunches, charity work, church, the list goes on. There is the odd day when I wake up and wish I had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do, but knowing me I'd just invent something. I have the odd day when I could scream, but that's usually caused by some beurocratic prat in a Government office. I was asked yesterday when was the best time to sunbathe, my answer being "I wouldn't know I haven't sunbathed for 3 years or more, life's too busy"

Re: 1 year today
We were very very lucky . We both worked at the same place and were offered redundancy , we only filled in the form out of nosiness . But when the figures came back we were gob smacked and excepted it .
We already had our place out here that we have had our holidays in for the last 6 or 7 years.
We knew we couldnt afford to live in the uk on what we had . So we rented our house out in the uk and come here .
The first year has been wonderfull and look forward to many many more

I meant to thank you all for your comments , so thank you all for your replys .
Also , when we were in the uk we didnt have a social life as such . You couldnt
just go to a pub in the evening to have a drink with friends . You never knew when
trouble would break out . It was safer to invite friends round .
So sad really that you couldnt go out like the old days and enjoy the company and
the place you were in .
I even had to get a pop pop bike because it wasnt safe to walk home from work .

carolhm. I don't know where you lived in the UK but it is not the same as you describe everywhere, we go out in the evenings we keep away from the towns and cities and don't have any problem whatsoever, I often go for a walk in the evening and feel safe on my own, my grandchildren go to school and back on their own and play out too. I leave the car at home and catch a bus to go shopping in town there is always a friendly person on the bus to chat to, so I can't agree with your comments about life in the UK.
