Coach trip to Cinarli cave and St Barnabus Monastery

Help raise money for ‘Tulips’ – Day Trip to St Barnabus Monastery and Cinarli Cave – Friday 8th April

First trip on 25th March is now sold out! Please note we have had to increase the price of the trip from the original 45tl due to our original transport agreement being withdrawn

This is a day trip to St Barnabus Monastery and Archeological Museum, which is close to Famagusta. On the way we will visit the famous ‘fig tree’ cave, which is cut in the beautiful countryside of Cinarli. Please wear strong, sensible footwear as the short walk over rock needed to reach the cave will ruin high heels. Please be warned it is rather cool inside the cave, which is illuminated by electric lighting.

After this we will stop off at the villages of Sandallar and Atlilar to visit the memorials and mass graves of the men, women and children massacred during the peace operation of 1974, some may find this experience upsetting but it is eye-opening, and part of the history of the Turkish Cypriots.

Next stop will be Salamis beach for lunch, either in Bedis Restaurant or you can take a packed lunch for the beach. The restaurant serves the usual fare of kebab, fish, salads etc. The health conscious among us can get a large mixed salad for 10tl. After lunch we will go to St Barnabus, literally, as his remains are laid in a mausoleum adjacent to the monastery. He died just a few years after the death of Jesus Christ, according to the literature. The monastery is probably one of the best value-for-money historical sites in Cyprus as it houses a museum as well as a large collection of icons. Refreshments are available in the cafeteria. Please take your TRNC driving license with you, if you have one, as it will benefit Tulips. The entry fee to historic sites has shot up recently and the entry fee for residents is 2tl cheaper. We plan to leave for home no later than 4-30pm.

The price of the trip is 54 tl per person, which includes the cost of entry to St Barnabus and the cave, but does not include lunch. Please take refreshments for a morning drink on the coach as we won’t have time to stop for a break before lunchtime.

The coach will make pick ups and drop offs in the following places, Karsiyaka square 9.00am, Golden Lady (opposite) car park, Alsancak 9.20am and Lemar, Catalkoy 9.50am. Please inform us where you wish to be picked up. We know there is strong demand for this trip so please confirm your place as quickly as possible.
