Good morning. Was wondering if anyone has seen any Easter eggs for sale this side of the island as the Easter bunny needs to pay my children a visit. Any help appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Hi

We got Easter eggs at the Tesco store just across the border.

Five minutes drive from Methan crossing, go to big roundabout with yellow circle rails on centre turn left go to end of road turn right Tesco in front beside Mc Donald's.

Hope this helps.

Happy Easter in advance.

Frank

Thanks for your replies, sounds great, but unfortunately I don't go over to the South as we can't afford to get the car insured etc. Has anyone seen any this side, please? Thanks and Happy Easter

The lady who does various pastries and cakes at a market stall at Catalkoy Lemar on Saturdays was talking about what to make for Easter. I suggested gingerbread chickens (her gingerbread men at Chritsmas were good) and nest of mini eggs. I havent seen her since so I dont know what , if any thing she has decided to do, but you could pop in tomorrow and ask. I also dont know if the market is open next Sat.

Had a look in Sah and Tempo Catalkoy this morning, no chocolate Easter eggs. Sah have M&Ms plastic Easter eggs. Tempo had loads last year but perhaps they were left with them and have decided to give it a miss this year. Of course, maybe they haven't arrived yet...

Here you go Mike https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_egg

They dye real eggs different colours for Easter in Bavaria. They also produce coloured doughnuts for Easter!

I am told that the outdoor market at Catalkoy Lemar are having an Easter fair next Saturday - with various seasonal goodies - no promises so far of chocolate Easter eggs though. I do not remember seeing any in North Cyprus allthe time I have been here, though one year there were CreamEggs.

I do rememberas a child my mother boilings eggs in onion skins , and also decorating hard boiled eggs with edible colouring. What I would really appreciate though it a nice Faberge egg

Mikelapta.
Two theories as I recall from Sunday school, both linked in a way.
Egg represented the boulder across the tomb where Jesus was buried and also represents new life. Spring, eggs, chickens, new life in abundance. Just not sure where chocolate figures in this! What the heck I'Il eat it anyhow!

When we were in yesterday they had bare shelves so it looked like they were just about to put out something on display. I'd imagine that all branches of Tempo will have them now.

Considering the amounts of cakes and puddings , mince pies, decorations and nu'merous Santa Claus's around at Christmas I dont think a Christian Festival is any deterrant here! More likely that Easter is early this year or even more confusion with the Orthodox Calendar where Easter is not until May this year!

Easter Eggs or not, we've certainly got the weather for it!

I woke up to a spectacular lightning storm this morning, with barely a one second gap between the 'flash' and the 'bang' !

Hailstones lashing down, driven by a westerly gale - I got quite nostalgic there, for a while.

Then the sun came out

Rather late information but they had a reasonable selection in Lemar Catalkoy including large ones in boxes, bags of eggs, cream eggs. There was a whole small island of various. I got stung for a load on Sunday at 20tl per boxed with various chocolates inside.

Well, anyone who buys a load now will be set up for the Greek Orthodox Easter, which this year doesn't occur until April 29th - thanks, apparently, to two different calendars, and some bloke called Julian

after driving miles, and visiting lots of shops, I finally gave up, and bought chocolate bars and a few cadburys cream eggs. On Tuesday, I went into Lemar, Alsancak, they had a good selection, and the price of their cream eggs was much cheaper than Tempo !!!!
Never mind, the children are chocolated out, and are none the worse for it.

I saw loads in Lemar, Karakum this weke, but as Easter was over, and as not one of the packs said 'Easter' I decided not to buy anyway. I always remember my dear old Mum boiling eggs and painting faces onthem. And maybe that is what I iwll do next year - at least I can call them Easter Eggs. Such a shame that all these chocolate eggs are obviously dating back solely to th e old 'Pagan' days and the celebration of new life. Not a bad thing in essence, but as all my life this time of year has been 'Easter' and I even buy Easter cards or make them, then I kinda like my eggs to reflect it.
Anyway, I don't need the chocolate and nor does my waistline, but I wonder why they were so long being available in the stores. Maybe the boat came in late.
