Turkish Airlines Baggage Alowance
Coming from UK, Birmingham to Ercan, can anyone confirm the baggage allowance and how strict are they (Economy class)?

23kg from Manchester so I would say the same, usually we have 24/25 and have never been charged. 8kg hand luggage.

Their WEB site now says 20kg economy class. Used to say 23kg. We fly from Gatwick & Ercan normally have around 23kg

Was 23 but they changed it to 20kg when I queried it, they told me it had always been 20kg. Charged me as I was on about 25kg..flying out of Birmingham....have been charged at least 3 times.
Flying to Edinburgh in May and my ticket says 20kg.

It's always been 20kg on the Birmingham/Ercan route in the past 6 years and we fly regularly, our hand luggage is always weighed and 9 out of 10 times we've have charged for being over the limit, this is always at the Birmingham end.
But we're booked to fly to France later this year and the hold limit for that one is 30kg.

The answer is.... it varies depending on the airport of departure... typically from mainland Europe the allowance is 3kg better.... it's racial discrimination is what it is!
Best to check what booking site and your ticket say....
Oh and don't take the pi55 - we see some folk with bags they can hardly drag along and the wheels are bent outward and they still argue at the check-in desk....

Re: Turkish Airlines Baggage Alowance
I flew from Edinburgh to ercan a couple of weeks ago and it was 23 kg, my suitcase was 25 and hand luggage nearly 11kg but not charged. On a previous visit through same airport, airline we were over 9kg over in hold baggage, the check in desk let us off 2kg and when we went to pay the man only charged us for 4kg as we told him we had clothing and presents for our family who live there. We paid just over £40, I was expecting to pay 3 times that amount

If you live and book your flight in the uk your allowance is 23kg plus if you live in TRNC and book your flight here the limit is 20kg has been like this for quite a while, have questioned this with TA over the years and all I got was the usual shrug .

Your E ticket confirms your baggage allowance. I suspect the airline turn a blind eye if the aircraft is not full.

An individual passenger is unlikely to know whether the plane is going to be full or not so it's not really an option to take the chance....Enchanted wrote:Your E ticket confirms your baggage allowance. I suspect the airline turn a blind eye if the aircraft is not full.

Re: Turkish Airlines Baggage Alowance
It is an excellent airline but they should be consistent as it is very confusing and often expensive for those over the limit. In 2012 I was coming back from UK Birmingham to Ercan. I was way over (48kgs) but the check in assistant said Oh yes, 23kg to Ercan, that makes 46kgs as you are checking in two bags, so I won't bother about the extrna 2kgs. You couldn't make it up. I wasn't complaining though.

A little bit off topic but thought kibkomers would be interested.
I have just booked Atlas Jet from Ercan to Luton, one way £67.00 which includes meal and drinks on the plane plus 30KG of checked baggage!!
Now with Atlas you have to change planes in Istanbul but the lay over is only 1hr 55 mins.
I am returning to the UK and had looked at many options, Pegasus want £60 for extra 10kg luggage!

Why they can't do this for uk flights is beyond me.
