Can someone please help!!!!
Hi everyone,
Can someone please help me??!!
I was doing some gardening this morning and i have just realised that i have lost my wedding and engagement rings!!!
I can only assume they slipped off whilst chucking away the garden waste. I have since searched and searched the area but i'm having no luck.
I'm so upset.
Does anyone have a metal detector or know of anyone who may have one who i can contact??? I don't know what else to do.
Any help much appreciated.

I can't help with the metal detector (I think they are illegal here) but are you absolutely sure you didn't take your rings off before you started gardening? I hope you find them.

If you can give me some contact details I know some one who can help. Text me or call 0533 843 6539.
Metal Detectors have been banned by the Construction Federation . They are concerned that people may check their villas to see if there is any steel in the concrete.
I lost a pair of good sunglasses a few years back whilst strimming our land, I spent 6 months checking everywhere stripped apart the bales of garden waste I had strimmed. But to no avail. About 6 months later went to light the bread oven my sunglasses were in there. Don't ask how because I don't know.

Not sure if this is helpful, but try putting "Using a mobile phone as a metal detector" in to google search bar.
I don't know if you need a certain phone to be able to use the app, but worth a try.
Hope you find your rings.

There are also dozens of articles on how to put together a makeshift metal detector from common household items - try:
"calculator and radio metal detector"

Re: Can someone please help!!!!
Sounds like you have had some success already, but if it helps, place wooden stakes at each end of the garden about 1m apart, and then get ball of string and make the garden into strips.
Starting around where you found the wedding ring, thoroughly and slowly search each strip starting from the wedding ring position, and spanning out to each strip one at a time, You can then stop and carry on exactly where you left off.
Try to get someone to double check each strip you have done.
Take you time, it's tedious, but then you will not search areas twice and will be sure you have covered every inch.
Don't forget the bins etc where you may have thrown the rubbish.

The wife keeps complaining I never listen to a word she says ............. or something like that.

Just to save you some time....puppylover wrote:..."Using a mobile phone as a metal detector" ....
The mobile 'phone 'App' does work, as far as detecting Ferrous metal (iron, steel) objects is concerned, but does not appear to react to gold or silver objects - understandable, as the App uses a magnetometer to detect fluctuations in the earth's magnetic field caused by the presence of magnetic substances.
I think that you would do better to try one of the other methods...
Keep looking!
p.s. excellent advice there from brian!

It might be worth trying to contact the Archaeological Departments of the various universities - it's possible they would have metal detectors. You could also try the army and mine clearance people.

I have some great news.......I've found my engagement ring as well now!!! I can't quite believe it. I would like to thank you all for all your helpful comments and ideas. And especially to Johnny Lee and his friend (not sure of your name-sorry). With a bit of common sense, re-tracing steps and a whole lot of looking we finally found it. Thanks to you all here on kibkom....it's a great community.
