Simply The Best At Illeli.
Yesterday at Illeli we purchased the best Cornwall Pasty.Chicken Curry Pasty and sausage roll we have ever ate.The girl said they are testing the market and the products are made by an English Chef. I hope it is a regular thing. We did buy some of the same standard in Dec. from a new bakery. But yesterdays were scrumptious Does anyone have any info please on the Chef/Cook who makes them. Just in case it does not continue Also we would like to order some for home freezing. possibly pre. bake Thought it would be so nice to be able to get them out of the oven fresh.

Definatley not the ones you mention, these are perfect pastry and a real tase of Cornwall, and the Curry Pasties are an authentic Indian taste like a real curry not a jar mix taste. We spent alot of time in Padstow before we went to the States and to get this taste again is heaven.

It is almost opposite Wines Of The World Alsancak, In the same parade of shops as Home Essentials.

Without doubt, there is nowhere on this island that turns out anything near a traditional Cornish Pasty! The nearest they come is the fact that there is beef in them! I will say that Gul patisserie does a very good substitute!

Re: Simply The Best At Illeli.
"The pasty has been a documented part of the British diet since the 13th Century, at this time being devoured by the rich upper classes and royalty. The fillings were varied and rich; venison, beef, lamb and seafood like eels, flavoured with rich gravies and fruits. It wasn’t until the 17th and 18th centuries that the pasty was adopted by miners and farm workers in Cornwall as a means for providing themselves with easy, tasty and sustaining meals while they worked. And so the humble Cornish Pasty was born."
Now that is a traditional Cornish Pasty - not just beef! However, although the above will educate into the filling of a "Pasty", there is no historical facts available on what the miners, farm workers and fishermen actually had inside theirs. There are story's aplenty about the fish in one end and the fruit in the other and even pictures of the pasty with the head and tail of the fish sticking out of it, hmmm.

No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

The Tin & Lead miners could hold the pasty with the crusty end and eat the filled part with dirty hands and not poison themselves

Which Illeli shop is this. I thought there was only one shop at Alsancak. We called in there the other day and could not find these Pasties in the shop.

My wife also went looking for these pies but couldn't find them, when she asked a member of staff the looked at her as though she was mad.Must say that Guls pies and pasties aren't as good as jackies on Lambousa but that's just my preference

Since I moved here 10 years ago, one of the things I have really missed is a "proper job" Cornish pasty.
I think it's the Swede that makes all the difference?
I have to say that I have tried the Pasties at Gul Bakery and the ones at Ileli and they are as good as any Pasty I ever had in Cornwall.

You can't beat home made ones, my grandkids love mine with a drop of the meat gravy over the top and some mushy peas on the side.

They have the sausage rolls and pasties on plates by the cashier desks. They have a cover over them. If there aren't any by the cashiers ask but that is where they keep the fresh baked pastries. Hope this helps.
