Do you know your designer brands ?
Have you a flair for fashion ?
Are you bored and want something to do for a few hours ?
Do you like meeting other people ?
Are you good with members of the public ?
Are you bored and want something to do for a few hours ?
Do you enjoy working as part of a team ?
Are you happy working in the background ?
Are you one of the people who the KAR Charity Shops needs ?

KAR are looking for volunteers to help out in one of our 3 Charity shops in Kyrenia and Karakum. If you can help on just 1 morning/afternoon a week that would be such a help. You will be helping to sort through donations, pricing items, displaying goods and clothes in our shops and serving members of the public.
Please contact us if you can help - we would love to hear from you. 0533 8694098 or email kar@kyreniaanimalrescue.org.
KAR account is just for posting and not responding to queries. Contact our Office for information.

187 people have viewed this post, out of curiosity has anyone decided to volunteer?

Again out of curiosity why do charities struggle to get volunteers? there are many expats here, I know some work and don't have time and some expats suffer with poor health and may not be able to volunteer. But what about others?, what reasons do people give about not giving a few hours to help the charities here?

I am not having a go its just curiosity that makes me ask the question.

Yes, I do volunteer for KAR, in case some one asks

Sadly lovelife I have to say that the hard core of "workers" who used to volunteer for KAR and other charities are leaving the islandin one form or another. that leaves a smaller cake to be divvied up between the respect charities and age of most of the volunteers is getting higher by the year. . Also sadly, the people of moan and groan as to why don't KAR do this and why don't KAR do that, are more often than not the people who do the least. Just to get people. men or women, to volunteer for just one day, or even one morning, a month in one of the shops, is like drawing teeth, and just as painful. Like you, I do volunteer for KAR and very proud I am to do so, but there are times when you need broad shoulders and thick skin to do it!! BTW, there is nothing to prevent a swallow from volunteering one morning a week, when they are here.

I work for an RSPCA charity shop in the UK and sadly the situation is the same. We have a small dedicated band of volunteers who have worked there for donkeys years but find it very hard to recruit and retain new volunteers. I agree Sophie , people are quick to have a moan but slow to come forward and help.

If I did not help another Charity already three mornings a week plus doing other 'bits' for them I would willingly offer to help in your shops.
I think it is a great way to meet people and to have a laugh while helping a worth while cause.

BBB;s other half.

BBB other half., you like a few who give of their time are a dying breed (quite literally in a lot of cases) There are very few following with the next generation and it worries me as what is going to happen in the future. Whilst I am on my soapbox, why are their so few men coming forward to help. It's not compulsory to be a woman you know. I know BBB helps a lot, the picture of him with the horse comes to mind!

sophie, how many men are involved in the numerous charitable organisations within the TRNC? I, personally know of many males involved in the RBL, BRS, EFRAR, Children in Need etc, etc. Let's not take this down a gender road, please. If males choose their choice of charity, and it is not KAR, just leave it at that.
