As the UK is not in the Schengen zone I wonder if the visa free travel to Turkey will include UK citizens as Turks will still have to get a visa for the UK.

So that will mean that the south can not deny Turkish mainlanders entry,should be fun at the border as I can remember all the fuss when they voted to join the EU and had to let any EU passport owner into the south regardless of where the entered Cyprus.

Cyprus is also not in the Schengen zone, together with the U.K. and Ireland.

turkish citizens can entry the south, but they can not get a visa at a border, they have to apply in athens.
so just from that requirement, access through eg, metehan, is not possible.

The E.U. has recommended Turkish Citizens to be given Visa Free travel within the Schengen areas from July 2016.

The 'deal' if it goes through is that Turkish Nationals will be able to travel to Schengen Area Countries for 'short stays' of up to 3 months for tourism and business trips (not to reside or work) without needing a visa. Turkish Nationals will still need visa for such visits to those EU members that are not part of Schengen (UK, Cyprus and Ireland). However part of Turkey's side of the deal, which it has now passed into law, is to allow visa free (short stay) travel to Turkey to ALL EU member state nationals, including UK, Cyprus and Ireland nationals. So if the deal does go through it will mean UK or Irish or Cypriot nationals, who currently require a VISA to travel to Turkey for 'short stay' visits will no longer need such a visa, even though Turkish nationals travelling to those countries will still need one.

Yes I agree, but the deal is about refugees and migrants that this has been allowed, this is not for Turkey to join the EU as I understand it, that could take some time.

Yes the wider deal is all about refugees and migrants and as part of that deal the EU agreed to 'accelerate' the pre existing plans to move towards visa free short stay travel of Turkish Nationals in the Schengen area and of EU nationals generically to Turkey.

It has been suggested here that these changes (re visa requirements between EU and Turkey and Turkey and Schengen) would not affect UK Citizens travelling to Turkey, as the UK is not part of Schengen. My understanding is that this suggestion is not actually correct. My understanding is that Turkey, as part of the visa liberalisation process has now passed legislation such that UK Citizens will no longer require a visa when visiting Turkey for 'short stay' visits, even though Turkish nationals visiting the UK will still require a visa. That was the point I was trying to make.

Considering that every holidaymaker had to pay for their visa, they are giving up a hell of a lot of income. That may be offset by more people being willing to go there as a result.

The article at the top specificly mentions the shengen area which the UK is not part of there was no mention of the common travel area, most visa agreements are reciprocal.

Yes most visa agreements are reciprocal but this one is not a 'normal' (bi lateral deal between two states). Turkey has removed visa requirements restrictions on ALL EU nationals, this includes UK, Ireland and Cypriot Nationals.

I'd be surprised if Turkey allowed a second country national visa free access without a reciprocal agreement for its own nationals.

The (Turkish national) law granting visa free travel to all EU citizens to Turkey has been passed and published in the 'official gazzett' but will only come into force once the EU lifts the Schegen visa requirement for Turkish nationals. The requirement to allow visa free travel of all EU nationals, in return for visa free access to the Schengen area for Turkish nationals is nothing new. It was always part of the 72 requirements hammered out way back in 2014 between the EU and Turkey. The deal on migrants only accelerated the process, it did not change it.
