A big fire has broken out at about 6pm tonight and is still raging - the fumes will be noxious and there are people quite close observing it... they should be moved away but this is Cyprus....

Where are the helicopters?

Drove by it at app 11:30pm tonight.
Had to close car windows, due to fumes.
Can't imagine how the villagers are coping.
Will be closing all our windows tonight,
In case wind changes direction.
It's drifting to the east at the moment.
Saw 1 fire engine at the scene.

We are about 1km away, looked over this morning and still lots of smoke and fumes from burning plastic, etc. Sounds like JCB is in action. Wind in Westerly direction.

Smells are one thing and nobody likes a landfill site apart from the cats, crows and gulls - but burning plastic gives off deadly fumes like Cyanide... which is a bit more of a problem when blowing over homes.

We are over 1k away and there is never a smell from the dump till now... last night the homes of many a local resident will have been inundated with the stench of burning plastics - they need to put it out pronto.

Now maybe they will live up to their promise to close the site as was meant to happen two years ago....

Day three - still spewing-out toxic fumes and getting greater in volume - a puff of wind and it will be ablaze once more...

They need to cap it with tonnes of earth....

Groucho, tell the Mayor what is happening and your recommendation. I doubt Kibkomers reading this post can do anything about it.

It is not suggested that Kibkomers do anything to tackle the fire - but many villa owners in the area are not here just now so news might be relevant to them...

The mayor is of course well aware of the need for action...

When they go to bury someone in the cemetery, which is right next to the dump, then the deceased will be smoked before they get in the ground! God only knows what the bereaved will suffer...
