There used to be a section on this subject on the BRS website, not sure if its still there. Also I'm pretty sure that Trevor Hughes has covered it in one of his Newsletters. Why not give him a call?

The easiest way is to get a muchtars letter for both buyer and seller then go to one of the many noter offices who will complete the transfer form, passport photo copy also required
You can then leave it in their capable hands for an extra fee and come back later a week or so to collect the log book in the new owners name.
Or go to the office in Lefcosia with the completed documents and all paperwork plus mot/insurance/tax papers and due the transfer yourself.have fun.

Unless its changed very recently , has the seller you get a form from your muchtar not the usual muchtars letter, the buyer has three days to register the car in Lefkosa, you dont need to be present buyer needs copy of registered owners passport ,there are some instructions in English on the back of the owners registration card.

You do not need Muhtar's letter just the form which has to be signed by buyer & seller together with copy passport/kimlik take to the DVLC office in Lefkosa.
Or for a small fee (I think 50 tl) the guy who has the Commerical Union insurance inbetween Karakum Bestseller/Dragon Chinese will do it for you.
Make sure you get money & also that the Buyer transfers otherwise you will still be responsible for speeding tickets etc.

Just done it.
Go to local Muchter, he has official form for buyer and seller to sign.
Go to Nicosia offices with the signed form, copies of both Passports and all car registration documents.
Buy stamps [4tl]at the door of offices for use on official changed docs, take queue ticket number from machine, sit on the queue seats on the right side.
Cost about 230tl for the change over.

Hi we did it yesterday, bought and sold, but our version varies from the last one, but only slightly, still we are in TRNC so anything can change day to day.

We went to our muhter's office (Ozankoy) but they did not have the forms so I suppose that varies from village to village. We did not need a Muhter's letter as such just the form which we got from the Girne tax office. We then met with the buyer and took the form along with our passports to the notary, he filled in the form with car details, buyer and seller details and then we both had to sign it. The charge was 40tl and I would suggest the seller has this photocopied for himself to keep, as it is proof of when the car was sighned over to them in case of any problems I've speeding fines etc. We were advised this by a local official.

The buyer then has 5 days to register the car in Lefkosia, as a seller you do not need to go with them unless you wish to do so. The buyer needs to take the log book, the sighned form and a copy of their passport (photo page) no other documentation was asked for. We did not need to buy stamps outside we were told this is a sideline for the lady who sits there again by a local going in. You need a ticket from the machine, it is the top button you need for registration. Then it is just sit and wait it does not matter where you sit as your number will come up on a screen and you go to the appropriate desk. It cost us just over 300tl to register ours, but again that perhaps depends on the age of the vehicle, ours is only two years old.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.
As usual here there appears no definitive answer, although most have a similar theme. Will give it a go soon.
