Depends what you mean by 'decent posters'. I guess the moderators had their reasons and good ones. Maybe the main problem is the size of the forum. I am a member but don't use it much because I concentrate on here. Shame because Alex was very enthusiastic about it all, and set it up to answer a need. People make choices, I guess.

Personally I like the forum - Although I often don't see eye to eye with Embargoed members like DC, Groucho and Brinsley, I respect their ability to express themselves in a forum debate.

Iancrumpy, I read your posts, they are most interesting, Brinsley is an articulate and intellectual being, often misunderstood, a gentleman. The others you mention are inconsequential and insignificant. Alex needs to rethink his forum because it isn't working. A forum needs to be moderated by people who live in the country not holidayers.

Sorry iancrumpy I cannot agree, one is just plain rude and overly critical of anyone and everyone and the other is really quite stupid, imho of course.

There are posters who go on all forums who deliberatley make controversial postings. That is their right. The problem lies with the people who respond and get uptight about certain individuals. If you do not like what they write, do not read and if you respond know you will get attacked.

I have known many of the posters for about 8 years, some of them personally. I do not normally get involved with their "banter" and most know why. It is nothing personal just that I cannot be bothered. Banning some just boosts their moral for when they return and banning for life just means they will return using a different login. IMO unless somebody has been using foul language or being OTT in their abuse of others it is best just to ignore, continually hounding mods with petty complaints is just wasting a valuable resource. Mods are just like the rest of us, well almost, except they give up their time for free to monitor the forum. Be realistic, this is an open forum and to keep it that way there must be give and take you will NEVER stop any individual who wishes to be objectionable IN YOUR OPINION!

cyprusishome, I don`t see that it is people right to make controversial postings. I don`t use Embargoed as it is too much like how 44 became. And on 44, I like many others was put off posting because of the bully boy mentality.
Hopefully on here people feel comfortable to be able to post without fear of being verbally attacked and abused. Yes there is lively debate but that`s not what the bully boys do......IMHO

Totally agree Looseboots, one may not agree with somebody's post, and it is fine for you to disagree, but there is no need to attack a person or use foul language. I am constantly meeting people on the street and when I introduce them to Kibkom they tell me that they use to be members of C44 and had been put off by the bullying. So as I understand it you can have a forum with bullying but eventually you will lose many members as they understandably feel threatened.

We are happy the way the Kibkom Forum is performing and wth the way it is growing in members. I am all for a good debate and it does get people reading, but draw a line when it comes to inconsiderate rudeness.

Bullying still goes on in schools which affects people in later life, as adults we should be more considerate with regards to other peoples feelings.

Thing is, who decides what is or is not controversial. Plus there is a distinction between controversial and abusive, again one persons view will differ to another.

As an example, I think the state of Israel should keep its nose out of the affairs of Iran, they are the bully boys of the mid east not Iran. I know some who will jump out of their prams cos I detest the antics of Israel. Am I racist, controversial or what?

As I see it controversy and well argued opinion is essential to the debate, otherwise things can quickly become very bland but insulting/rude/aggressive behavior probably means your position is very weak in the first place!

I often play devils advocate on some postings to help expand a discussion as everything has more than one side, indeed it sometimes has many sides. Some like a lively debate, others seem to take extended offence that someone even dares challenge their opinion. My own mantra is it is always good to examine the "root" behind someone's deed or opinion as every angle gives you more information and a broader knowledge base upon which to set your own thoughts. 44 sometimes got boring with some arguments, but you did not have to read them, the point at which anything should be moderated is when there are threats and bullying, however veiled and when insults are thrown.

Little Nige has been insulting Yorg for a long time and Yorg has had enough...quite right too....Nige works 'illegally' here and Yorg has said he will have him removed from the Island, all good fun, I am not a member of Embargoed, just pop in to read.

Embargoed is rapidly turning into a complete farce, the thread 'going round in circles' is proof of that, the mods should step in and tell the posters to grow up. Ridiculous.
