Airport security
I flew out of Ercan three weeks ago, as I was about to get out of the car I noticed a bottle of water in the side pocket, I picked it up and put it in my hand luggage intending to dispose of it in a bin before I went into the airport, I forgot !
I went through the scanners at Ercan twice and again at Ataturk, I only realised when I got back to blighty I still had it
So much for security

Re: Airport security
Yes this had happened to me several times at Ercan. In fact I now always take my water through because they don't seem bothered with water! In the past I have also taken several litres of olive oil through in my hand luggage.
When I flew back via Gatwick last year I had a bottle of water in my handag that i had forgotten about about and that didnt get picked up either!
All rather worrying!

I think the water thing is more economics than security. Hope they don't' bring this regulation in at Ercan.

Re: Airport security
When I have flown from Ercan to Turkey.
The security have been more interested and concerned about taking currency out of the country.
Security very poor in my opinion.

I do not think that water in the bottle has created the banning of the bottles which haven't been purchased in the secure part of the airport complex. Its more about other substances being carried in a water bottle such as petrol- acid or any other flamatory liquid. This is why in my view it's vital not to allow bottled water to get through the security checks and it should be picked up by the security people.
Just my opinion of course.

Hi,
I fly from Ercan every week and even at Sabiha and Ataturk I take my bottle of water through - never a problem. I think a bottle of water is the least of security threats

This should have been reported to the appropriate authorities, it is not only your life @ risk it is every ones, if they have let you through how many more have they this is one way the terrorist will test the water, .judyvin wrote:Yes this had happened to me several times at Ercan. I totally agree.Belfast Belle wrote: This should have been reported to the appropriate authorities, it is not only your life @ risk it is every ones, if they have let you through how many more have they this is one way the terrorist will test the water, .
I believe that the restriction on liquids was brought in after a plot was uncovered, which involved mixing a combination of innocuous looking liquids to produce an explosive reaction.
If they are missing the water that one person is carrying, then they are likely to be missing the chemicals that a terrorist is carrying.
It's not too late, report it now, giving details of your check-in time etc, so that staff training can be refreshed.

Absolutely spot on and I can't quite understand why some people are unable to grasp the importance.

If they are going to allow liquids through they should at least ask you to o have a gulp to prove its not harmful. ( a gulp from several bottle of olive oil could give you an interesting journey )
Liquids aside a major problem is the mixing of clean and dirty passenger (departing and arriving). Also bags left anywhere and everywhere, scanners that don't function properly but apart from that.......
