How dumb is closing threads?

No one is hurt, no one is going to die, no one is going to suffer irreparable damage. So why close threads because a discussion gets heated? Is this just a power thing, or a case of "we" know better than the rest of you?
As long as threats are not made and foul language is not used..why worry!! Or am I missing some pecuniary reason?

You obviously did not see the 44 forum. Soner and the moderators do not want KibKom to go the same way so they do epect better behaviour than was expressed on Cyprus 44
As I got older I congratulated myself on my tolerance..... Now I realise I just don't give a "ooops"

I was a member of 44 for years. Stopping discussions because "someone" deems it has come to the end of it's useful life is dozy. If it is threatening, libellous or defamatory then end it. Otherwise let adults decide to debate or not.

Cyprus 44 went downhill rapidly at the end.

As moderators we are determined not to let this forum go the same way.

Providing members follow the rules then there are no problems. However; occasionally people do break the rules and as a result posts are removed or topics are placed in a pending area allowing moderators time to review what was posted and decide if any action needs taking. Sometimes a post is edited by moderators and placed back on the forum, sometimes posts are deleted and on accasions members are warned about following the rules of the forum. If things are getting out of hand then the topic will be locked. If members do not follow the forum rules they may receive a warning and if they persist then a short or permanent ban. Banning is always a last resort but sadly has had to be carried out on occasions. If members were able to see just some of the unpleasant and threatening pm's or emails moderators have received they would understand why we are so determined to ensure the Kibkom forum does not turn into Cyprus 44.

Moderators are not on the forum to stifle debate but to try and moderate fairly, bearing in mind that internet forums have been taken down as a result of inflammatory, rascist or libellous comments.

When you join the forum you agree to abide by the forum rules. The forum rules also state that moderators do not have
to explain their actions and ask that members respect their decisions. If you cannot follow the forum rules then feel free to post elsewhere.

Enjoy the forum, but please follow the rules.

Thanks
