Garden Shears Sharpened?

Hi All, can anybody tell me where I can get my hand garden shears sharpened, only had them a year but they would not cut thru butter, can any help please as bushes need a haircut!!!

If they need sharpening after just a year, and if you are presumably not using them daily, you will likely be better off throwing them out and getting descent pair.
The wife keeps complaining I never listen to a word she says ............. or something like that.

Garden shears aren't Sabatier kitchen knives and a fairly crude sharpening will do the job. All that is needed is a vice and a metal file.

File off any metal standing proud from the backs first (if there is much of that then I would agree with brian24001 and dump them because the metal is too soft for the job). Then file the tapered edge exactly along its current contour until they are sharp again. Finally don't forget to tighten the pivot nut or the blades will 'waggle' and be totally ineffective.

The man who cuts keys in the road between Tin Pan Alley and 1001 sharpened mine for me. He also does an excellent job on kitchen knives.

Thanks for all the replies, and yes they are good pair (not that I'm an expert) Spear and Jackson, Dropped Forge Steel. not that I know what this means! will try and give it a go myself and thanks for the tip on tightening the pivot nut.............

I sharpen mine using an angle grinder making sure not to burn and overheat the metal.
