Asthma sufferers?

I live in TRNC but on recent visit to UK suffered an extremely bad asthma attack and had to be hospitalised. I am usually ok in TRNC as the climate suits me better, but it has occurred to me, after this scare, that I should have some kind of plan for getting emergency treatment should I need it over here. Does anyone know of, or use asthma care or consultant, and which is the best hospital to head for?

Thanks in advance.

My neighbour in Girne had an acute asthma attack at almost midnight one night. His inhalers just did not give him any relief and so he got his partner to drive him to Girne Hospital.

The treatment was immediate and he was given an injection and put onto a nebuliser, he was kept there until 3am and then was allowed to go home.

The cost? 10tl for the injection.

He swears by this hospital. In the UK he might have sat in a waiting room for ages but there he was seen by a doctor immediately and treatment was instant.

Don't be scared, go to Girne Hospital if you get into trouble.

I suppose you do have your Asthma spray and use it as described by your doctor.
If not, I would consult professor Finn Rasmussen from Denmark, Eastern Med. University. He is specialist in Asthma and Allergy

We too had to go to Girne State Hospital recently and I have to say we would now make it our first port of call, whilst maybe not the most modern looking hospital, they are up to date and very responsive in A and E. In the UK you would be in a long line of many for several hours.

Thank you for the replies. Suehowlittle......yours is particularly helpful as this is exactly the treatment I would need, a steroid injection and nebuliser......I have used Girne State Hospital in the past, just for cat bite but I was not sure if they would be able to treat a severe asthma attack, so thank you for the re-assurance. Hopefully I will not need it as I am now on a much higher dose of preventative inhaler, but with my particular kind of asthma, the 'brittle' kind, sometimes, as with the man that you mentioned, I can get an attack and the ventolin reliever does not work at all, hence the need to rush off to the hospital......fortunately it does not happen very often.

Thanks again for the info

Thank you Banjo, it is very useful to know that there is a specialist here that I can use if I need to. Yes, I do have all the inhalers, steroids and montelukast tablets, it's just that sometimes occasionally, if I get a chest infection, none of it works, so to know that there is a consultant here is great. Thanks again.

I myself suffer from asthma all my life and can tell you that local hospitals here are good with help, (girne, magusa and lefkosa ones are all tried and tested ).

I used to think I was great in bed until I discovered my girlfriend was asthmatic.
