Milk fresh from the cow?
I like to make my own cheese. Is there anywhere I can purchase some unpasteurised milk fresh from the cow?
It is not possible to make any cheese with UHT and bottled fresh milk has too low a fat content.
Someone, somewhere must have a cow. Would it be illegal to purchase direct from the farmer?

I am not sure about the legalities of purchasing milk directly from the farmer but you could always ask the farmer and there is one behind The Grove(this has a new name now, something similar to the Hawaain Holiday Village) on the main Karakum/Catalkoy road.

You should be very careful with unpasturised milk, I understand that Brusellosis (too early for spellin) is quite common and is a disease you do not want to catch. Also are there controls on drugs given to cattle, sheep and goats to counteract mastitis etc?
I was brought up on unpasteurised milk and my body built up immunities to any natural nasties but in this modern age of "kills 99.9% of household germs" most folk cannot tolerate fresh unpasturised.
Anyway, just my ramblings. I hope you get what you want and are succesful in producing your own.

Totally agree with CIH, my cousin contracted this awful disease - he was brought up on a dairy farm. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brucellosis for more info.

I have actually drunk fresh milk from the cow, somewhere in the Gazimagusa region, but I can remember where. It was delicious and I suffered no ill effects, but perhaps I was lucky! I have seen cows in Ozankoy, but never anyone near them!
Have you thought about sheep or goat's cheese? Low fat, but people do make cheese from them.

I am now 62 and drinking unpasteurised milk has done me no harm. I think I also will have built up immunities but in the case of the cheesemaking, the milk is heated to 95c so any bacteria will be removed.

I have been buying my milk from my lovely neighbour farmer for nearly three years. Their cows are checked for brucelocis(spelling??) regularly. It tastes so much better!!

Two cows were in a field and one said to the other (as they do), "Wot do yer think abowt this mad cow disease then" ? The other one replied "I couln't give a flying cow pat, co's I'm a frog". How cheesy is that ? Sue, can I have some, (cheese not the cow pat) when it is made ? xx
"profound ? A bird can sing with a broken wing, but, one can't pluck feathers off a frog!
