Ceremony to mark start of building water pipeline to TRNC
Source : http://www.haberkktc.com/haber/asrin-pr ... 49276.html
This Saturday, Irsen Küçük will attend a ceremony near Mersin to mark the start of work on laying pipes from the Alaköprü Reservoir there.
It is planned that from March 2014 onwards the pipe will annually supply 75 million cubic metres of water to the Geçitköy Reservoir in the TRNC. For the 80km from the mainland to Cyprus the pipeline will be at a constant depth of 250 metres below the surface, and as such it will be "passing water through water" ... apparently a "first" in the construction of water pipelines.

Niceone, this is actually the second stage of the construction work; they started the first stage in March 2011, when the first stone was laid for the Alaköprü Reservoir dams.

Drive through Gecitkoy and look at the work going on for the new dam, amazing progress.
Obviously under the supervision of Turkish managers to make such good progress!!!!

It has been correctly pointed out to me that the ceremony will take place in Anamur, which is not that close to Mersin; it is in fact closer to the city of Alanya. However, Anamur is in the province of Mersin.

Of course we all knew it was Mersin province and that is why we did not pick up on it. LOL
It is good to see something positive ACTUALLY happening for TRNC. No doubt the next 10 winters will be the wetest in history.

I have seen the work going on at gegitikoy resevoir to receive this water but I have not seen any pipes being laid to get the water from
there to villages, towns or even to the agricultural plains or orchards. Will the government wait until it arrives before doing this work, or will they
go on relying on tankers to transport this water? Just wondering if anybody knows the answer.

Was not aware they used tankers to transport from any resevoirs as a norm.
I believe there will need to be additional pipework to distribute nationally the incoming supplies from Turkey as the existing network is not sufficient.
It does look good what is happening! That said, I would not want to live in Gecitcoy once the larger resevoir is complete.

My father-in-law thinks the water from the reservoir is currently only being used to irrigate the farmland in that area.

Why!
I think it will be a fantastic location to live near once it has been established with loads of activities hopefully like fishing, skiing etc, and it will look really so scenic between the mountains.
