Just bought some freash beans, but don't know how to prepare

Hi I just bought some pretty beans , white and purple pods, then realised I have no idea how to prepare them!!
I have assumed I take beans from pod, they are white with purple stripes, and cook them, but is this correct and how long do they need cooking

Put them in cold ater and bring to the boil. How long they take depends on the size. Test after 10 minutes and see how they're doing. In a frying pan, soften chopped onions in a generous glug of olive oil (I also add garlic but it's not essential. When beans are cooked to your liking, drain and add to softened onions. Season, squeeze over some lemon juice, add chopped parsley, stir around and serve.
