Just under 18 years old; of those A320s (various versions) that first flew in/from 1995, the majority appear to still be "active", while a fair number flying back in 1990 onwards are also still active - I'm trying Cobalt in September, so if I survive, I'll let you know.....

Thank you for that.

I note that while 'section 75' only covers purchases between £100 & £30,000, provided that your credit card is either Visa, Mastercard, or Amex, there is a 'Chargeback' procedure built in to the card issuers' rules (subject to a £10 minimum on Mastercard) which may help you to get a refund in the event of 'non-delivery'.

I appreciate that this may not be of any help if the supplier has gone bust - because it does involve the card issuer claiming back the payment from the supplier (or non-supplier ), implying that the supplier needs to be solvent, in order to actually process a refund.

See: - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shoppi ... chargeback

Anyway, thanks again, I'm sure that a lot of people will benefit from that.

Re section 75,

Note: you are covered if you buy flights direct from an airline that goes bust provided you qualify as described in the following example:

Fly to Traveltown with Holidayair on flights costing £99 outbound and £9.99 back, and while it's over £100 in total, as no single ticket was over £100, you're not protected. Yet if Holidayair had only sold return journeys and you bought a specific £109 return ticket, then you'd be covered.

Hence possibly not covered with Cobalt as each leg is likely to be less than £100.

And from the same site (under Quick questions:.....'I booked tickets for me and five friends......') -
"....in general, if you've paid for a group booking, such as tickets or a holiday for friends or non-immediate family, you should be protected for the full payment..."
and
"...But the Financial Ombudsman says there's a chance you'll not be covered for the full amount, possibly only being entitled to your own proportion of the payment. So while payments for partners and children are easier...."
So if I'm paying for myself and OH together (in total over £100, but each ticket under £100).......?
This is how lawyers (and Banks!) make their money.....

From the link you provided, while a number are recorded as "stored", it doesn't seem to say where; it's also said that Cobalt are acquiring another soon - note "acquiring" - so many airlines around the world do not own but rely on wet-leasing or dry-leasing their fleets - and all aircraft are (AFAIK) subject to maintenance and flight-worthiness requirements and regulations - I think airport authorities let alone aviation authorities would have something to say about "rustbuckets" using their facilities and carrying passengers and freight...
Never mind, I'll see if I can take a parachute on with me - although looking at that stuntman in the news.....

Just looked at the web sight . If you want to fly by Sop With Camel . At a price not much cheaper than the others by the time you pay for baggage etc give them a go. Me thinks may give them a miss.

We have booked with Cobalt Air for return flights, departing TRNC early September. (€440 return LCA to STN). Today we were at LCA collecting my daughter. Thought we would have a look to see if could find a booking desk. Didn't see one, however,it seems that to cover the bookings to their destinations ( been pointed out on here they have only one aircraft) they are chartering other airlines to cover their commitments. Whilst there, their flight to,I think was Athens, was being covered by Danish Airlines. At least that is what was coming up on Cobalt check in desks!

Just a quick update for any interested parties. We travelled from larnaca to Dublin yesterday. Only a ten minute delay and a perfectly comfortable flight for a budget airline. The check in was a little shambolic, but we'd checked in online, and seats were successfully reserved. Not a big selection of food, but nice competent staff.
All in all, a good result to be able to fly directly from Cyprus to Dublin for the first time in years.....and at a very reasonable price. Hope it continues!

Flew in on Tuesday no problems, flight arrived early but had around 50 empty seats, strange as I tried to book another seat but their site had no vacancies available.

Booked my September flight to Larnaca mid-June, but no late October return flights available at that time; they appeared 1st August, so booked then. When booking out, either the seat reservation page did not appear, OR I accidently jumped past - and I couldn't find a way to then reserve.
When I booked the returns, I was able to reserve seats (free!), so I phoned the office to see if I could reserve on the outward trip, despite having booked six weeks earlier - "No problem", says the bloke - and does it there and then, telling me the details (once again, free!)!
Only thing (so far) that I dislike, online check-in is limited to 24 hours before flight - Thomas Cook pull the same stroke, but other airlines (e.g. Monarch and EasyJet) start from 2/3 weeks or more before flight, which enables check-in (and printing of boarding passes) for return flights - I had to buy a printer in Cyprus when I came back with TC.....

A report in Cyprus Mail today last Saturday's flight 9.45 am Stansted to Larnaca was delayed by 30 hours due to a flat tyre, not enough accommodation around Stansted families with children taken to Gatwick area then brought back, no rep around to help not given food until Sunday doesn't sound good.

Flew from Manchester to Larnaca yesterday (11th), 20 minutes late taking off, arrived 7 minutes late, very comfortable flight, comparable with Monarch/Thomas Cook/Easyjet, all of whom we have flown with previously (but had to pay for seat reservations). The only "problem" we had was that the online checkin system was down; phoned their help desk and were told just to check in at the airport - which we did with no long queues or delays.
They are (as I suggested in msg 18) wetleasing aircraft from other companies as necessary; our plane was provided by EverJet, and seating, facilities, on-board services just as normal - definitely be using them again so long as the prices are competetive; Good luck to them!

Ive just booked a one way flight Manchester-Larnaca for 18th December, cost of flight with 2 x 20kg luggage and card fee was £102, not used them before but was very easy to book online with no problems whatsoever. Looking forward to seeing what they are like to fly with.

Flew from LCA with Cobalt last Thursday. Trident were the carriers for them. Seats are comfy,if a little short & not reclining. Cobalt check in online system is useless. Queue at check-in was quite long but quick. Any hand luggage not needed in cabin was put in hold at no extra charge.

A very important point made.

I always fly either into LCA or PFO with EasyJet Brand new aircraft ( introducing A321's (shortly). Mainly always on time, good prices, pleasant staff, plenty of back up aircraft but most of all ATOL protected.

One point why is this subject "Cobalt Air" not in the TRAVEL SECTION ?

I'll just make the quick point, that cobalt has been running direct flights to Dublin at a very good price, which was exactly what we required and it worked out very well. None of the other alternative airlines, reviewed or suggested, fly this route.
Consequently this ' new kid on the block' atol protected or not, is probably newsworthy on the general forum, for info purposes.
