Just renewed and found the premium had risen by almost 50%............. the government was blamed and other changes to policy and procedures etc.

I was told everyone was in the same boat - is that the case?

Just renewed my insurance on a 9 year old (by registration date but 11 years old by manufactures date) Hyundai Santa Fe. Last year it was 350TL and this year it was 410TL, so a rise for sure but not anywhere near 50%. Strange thing is that last year the road tax was 1810TL which was a reduction to the previous year, I expect this years to be around the same then the following year it will drop because the vehicle will be over 10 years old! That is if I still have it as it is up for sale anyway - lol.

I understand that this is beacuse the 'maximum amount payable' on a third party claim has increased from 50,000 TL to 75,000 TL

I don't understand what you mean by " the sterling part"

Keith, most likely - I would think so as fully comp would be silly cost and as any accident out here would be proven to be my fault anyway I have never thought it worth it. The max amount payable is shown as 75,000TL so that should prove it is 3rd party? My good TC friend tells me that trying to get money out of a fully comp insurance on a car over 3 years old is the same as getting blood out of a stone - he should know, he is an insurance agent - lol.

Interesting, our car was over 5 years old when it was written off as the result of an accident, we got back the full amount it was insured for. It did take about a month to get the money though.

Good for you come_on_aylin, its nice to hear a success story, well done. Mind you, if I got back the full amount the car is worth on the insurance I would be hard pressed to replace it with a second hand scooter - lol. I will stick with the old 3rd party, it keeps me legal-ish.
