Do regular blood donors under 60 need to have an x ray

Post by LooseBoots »

For residency.

On previous threads it has been listed the up to date requirements for under 60`s .

What has not been verified is that if you are a blood donor, it was my understanding that you do not need another blood test for your residency. I may be wrong but maybe someone from BRS can confirm ( I am having trouble at the moment accessing their website ).

Also I would like to know, under the new rules, if you are exempt from the blood test, do you just need an x ray, as I understand the TB jab/test has been scrapped, and what is the cost of that. The combined cost of a blood test PLUS x-ray has been stated on other threads.

Thank you Andrew for at least responding. I was rather hoping that someone from perhaps BRS could have shed some light on it.

Loose Boots - I havent the figures with me, but I believe the Xray is not too expensive!! You have to have more than 1 blood donor sessions on your card (given and filled in every time you go) before it counts, one will not do., and the last one within 30 days, I think is still necessary.
The website is having major problems with its server I believe - there is talk of changing to another one, which may be more reliable!
Sorry I have not been able to be of more help!

Hopefully not to confuse the matter further - I read that you had to donate blood 3 times within a year, the last donation being within 30 days of residency renewal. It was stated that an X-ray was still required but at a much reduced price.
What I don't know is if these donations have to be at BRS donation days or whether you can go to the blood bank direct. If anyone knows that, it would be very helpful.

I think you can give blood any time as long as you get your donor card signed. And yes mamachina we have been regular donors for 3 years since we moved here and have a fully marked donor card.

We asked at the last BRS blood donor day and you have to give blood three times at least, the last one(or third) before your residency application must be within 30 days of your residency and when you make that donation you must specify it is for your residency. You can make blood donations any time at Girne or Lefkosa hospitals but you must stress that it is for your residency.
Hope this helps, don't know about the XRay as the wife isn't due her residency until next year and I'm too old to have to bother

I have been trying to find out about the cost of an Xray and it should be in the region of 20-30lira - i gather there have been some people who have been told the wrong amount - if it is more query it with them, and if necessary with the hospital admin - as if you pay it and it is wrong you cant get it back!!
